Well, first family camping trip for....well, ever! Leaving in about an hour, only brought a new tent (Outwell Montana 6P) this morning so as yet unpitched...........and its about to rain!
I would take the old tent from pre children days but it won't fit in the car(s)! 6 of us, 2 cars, no space!!
If anyone is at Elvaston Castle, please pop over and have a laugh at my expense (but bring me a beer!!)

Well got here last night and as soon as the tent was out of the car the heavens opened..........and stayed open til just now (07.30)!
By the time the tent was up i was soaked to the skin but it pitched quite well considering the conditions! We all slept well enough (inc 2yr old son who fell out of his ready bed a few times in the night but didnt wake when istuffed him back in it!!)
So far so good then really. Only downside to this tent is all the doors are sloped so cant cook anywhere undercover.....cereal it is then!
So you have survived the "baptism of fire"...your not a camper until you've put up or taken down in the rain!!
Congratulations and I hope you have a great camp.
If you really want to alfresco cook,I would personally suggest getting yourself a camping tarp and windbreaker set up out front or just over the front door...it would help with the whole sloping door in the rain scenario and give you a little extra protection.....good luck.
Well what a great weekend! After the first night of rain, the weather improved massively and has been warm / hot and mostly sunny since!
Made a trip to go outdoors and got a folding table for cooking on which really helped make me feel more organised. Going to look at tarps or utility
tent next and maybe some proper beds as my back isnt what it used to be.We were all really pleased with the tent - we removed the bedroom divider and me, wife and 5yr old and 2yr old slept iin there. The oldest 2 slept in the main bit. My worries about the 2yr old were unfounded as apart from falling out of the readybed slept perfectly well.
Cant wait to go camping again!
Cheers for the replies

So glad you had a good time. You'll soon find its an addiction. Every time you see something linked to camping you'll get the urge to check your kit or look up a site for the next weekend Lol xx
Already planning the front canopy for the tent......and a folding cupboard.......and lights........and this and that lol....
I could easily get carried away! Go Outdoors is too close for comfort now the Derby branch is open!!
Was checking out sites for the next trip before we got back from the last one!!
Cheers

Looks like you experienced the same as us that "lovely" weekend, we camped for the first time with the family and had that fun night of constant rain, but like you we're addicted!! Glad you had great time :)
We just discovered GO outdoors in Stockport and Winfields at Haslingden and omg it was like adult toys-r-us!! Neeeeeed so many things!!!
I think go outdoors is a dangerous place! We 'popped' this morning and came out £150 lighter (although most of it went on the front canopy thing for the tent so we have somewhere to cook or sit in the shade.....
We are desperate to go camping again. Looking at bank top farm (fenny bentley) or rowter farm (nr castleton) next weekend.....
Glad you had a great time too!
Rich
Not that keen on go outdoors, our nearest is Blackburn, not that it has anything to do with Blackburn. I didn't like them that much when we were going to the one in Cardiff either. But Outdoor Action in Blackburn and Winfields at Haslingden are both terrible dangerous places.
