Schnauzers can be quite barky, but so can lakelands. Our lakelands (sadly, now just the one) were always fine when camping, unless kids played ball games or cycled very near the tent.
That was fine, as it gave us a very good reason to aske them not to play ball games near our tent.
They don't seem to feel as territorial about a campsite pitch as they do about a garden, and just used to chill and watch people go about their business. They never even made a fuss when a young lurcher staying on site learned how to escape from her tent and came and visited us late at night and early in the morning. If a strange dog came and visited us at home, they'd go ballistic - dogs they know mostly aren't welcome! (An exception is made for the Jack Russell next door, who is the only dog that Lola has ever really liked)
Also, because we were out and about with them all day, they were knackered by the evening and slept like little furry logs. They actually used to "ask" to be untethered so they could go in the tent and go to bed.
We always take a folding dog cage and put it up in the living area of the tent, so that we can keep them safe and secure if there's thunder or fireworks, and at night I leave their leads on so they're easy to grab if they slipped out while one of us was going on a nighttime loo trip.
I've had dogs for almost 30 years now and all of them have loved camping.
