I don't fancy driving through the night. Being the sole driver I know I wouldn't get any sleep when we got there with the two kids. Do you sleep when you get there? Or at least the driver?
It might be a bit pricey, but have you considered breaking your journey and booking into a B&B or Travel Lodge or similar? You could then leave late afternoon, miss the worst of the traffic, stop halfway (or even further) for the night, and leave again early the next morning. It might be less stressful and exhausting if you're doing all the driving.
Last time I booked a Premier Inn I had a huge family room and it was only about £50. Mind you, that was in Hull!

I live in Cornwall and have just come home from a fabulous 2 weeks in the lakes. I stayed at Churchstile, Nether Wasdale - not far from Eskdale - it was a fantasitc site - my favourite to date and I have been camping on and off for over 20 years now. From Newquay to the site, with one stop en route, leaving at 6am took 8 hours door to door - due to the M5 and M6 currently a building site with loads of it on a 50mph speed limit.
The site has a lovely nature trail/dog walk on site - my hound loved it. Also the beach at Drigg is only about 20 miniute drive from the site and it is dog friendly with free parking. Beach not as nice as Cornwall beaches of course! but a nice run around for the dog. There is also a lovely walk at Wast Water a 10 minute drive from the site. The path follows the little beach around the end of the lake - woods on one side, water on the other, my dog was in heaven. Also great for the kids, you could take a picnic there and they could swim - if they are brave - brrgggghhhh!
Good luck with your final choice.

I have to say Church Stile is a lovely campsite as is the C&CC one in Eskdale. I'm not fond of Fisherground - though it is nice to be able to have a fire - keeps the midges away !!
