Adult only is no guarantee....

Sat in front of my tent with first cuppa, around 06:45... Man passes by heading for showers about 10m away.. I force a smile, raise a hand, and literally mime the word "Mornin'"... he does something similar, but goes on to say how promising the weather looks... Oh, and he didn't bother with the miming bit!! Must have been a Town Crier by trade, I reckon, going by the decibels that emanated from his gob!!

And LO... The site was now awake!!

Having camped in the UK and France, it seems 'we' are a nation of early risers whilst over the channel, campers emerge much later at a more civilised 8.30-9.00 am: including those with children.

Do we go to bed earlier as it's cooler here at night, and thus wake early or, is there a competitive element involved about being seen to be the early bird and not lazy, as others have suggested. Oh, and beat the rush for the showers. A similar mentality can be seen with boot fairs with people getting there earlier and earlier...

The first time I camped with my OH he woke at 5.30 so by the time we'd had breakfast and showered, we were ready for bacon all over again. Ear plugs and eye mask solved this one

I like a bit of a lie-in and lazy morning, then a long lunch and oh, it's ready for dinner!

Like the OP said, courtesy costs nothing and then each to their own routine I guess. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I agree!
I love my bed, and I love lie ins.
I jam my ear plugs in, and then the rest of the world can do whatever they please, I don't care!

It's generally the sun and the heat that wakes me up rather than any noise. Or one of my own children climbing on my head, or using me as a trampoline.

We "babysat" our son's dogs last time we went camping. They were disturbed around 4 am every morning, animals and dawn chorus. As soon as I heard them I got up and took them round the dog field then back into their cage. They still wouldn't settle so I lay on the floor in front of their cage to keep them quiet, which it did. Around 6 am I started hearing other dogs barking and was amazed that no one tried to quieten them.

If you're in a van with a sliding door why not speak to each other if you're off to the toilets rather than one going and slamming it shut , then slamming it when you get back : repeat 5 times

Sometimes it's not people! Just had a week in the Isle of Wight and then onto South Hams for another - Both sites had early risers, but I didn't pop my head out until at least 8.30a.m..
But the flaming rooks/crows - what ever they are - in the South Hams started squaking around 5-5.30 for about 3 days, but then one morning just were not there....peace!
This happened last year at Hereford site and it was awful. In the evenings they were so loud we couldn't hear each other talk! The mornings again around 5:00ish were horrendous... and I am definitely not a morning person I have to say. I keep threatening to bloody well get me gun out and shoot 'em!
But I have to say they know not what they do whereas human beings do!

Being one myself(a quiet early riser)I look upon noisy children as a minor irritant rather than a full blown annoyance in the morning...And even then its way down my list of "Unspoken" rules and regs that should not really be broken...

However...Like Lurcher Lover....At the top of my list is car door slammers!!!! Granted you may have to get up and start packing for the likes of an early departure or such...But why oh why do you need to open and shut any of the 4-5 doors on your car on every trip from the tent with your gear???? Absolutely no need for it whatsoever!!

That's my grump over for the day.....

Jelboy.

Until a few weeks ago, I'd have agreed with you, Jelboy. Then we went away for the first time in the Passat I got back in February, and we couldn't find any way of turning off the interior lights that come on when the tailgate or back doors are open. We had to keep shutting them for fear of flattening the battery (well, I say we - I'd have risked it, but it wasn't worth falling out with OH about).

Ditto - I'm so aware of every time I shut the car door but I also don't want to flatten the battery by leaving the interior lights on. So I try shutting the door gently, then it doesn't shut properly, so I have to shut it again, which doubles the number of door slams! Maybe the answer is to unload everything in a heap by the car, but not such a good idea in the rain.

We have sliding doors on our MPV. The upside is that they are electric, so you just hear the humming of the slide, but then a nice quiet click as opposed to a slam.
The downside is, when the boot is opened and/or closed, it emits 3 beeps to ensure everybody runs a mile and avoids instant crushing and ultimately death!
If only I knew how to disconnect the fu**in' beeper!!

Had to laugh at the campervan sliding door in the night! I used to tell OH, who almost always gets out in the night, to wake me up so I could go as well. Not so much for the door slide/slam, but so that we don't have to wake up yet again. And if it's nearly morning and not raining, we sometimes just slide the door and lock it, but it's not watertight then and leaks.

I've got one early rising child and one who likes to lie in. It's often impossible to make an early waking child sleep later no matter when you put them to bed. If kids bother you go to an adults only site.

Interestingly, the OP is about an adult talking loudly to the child. So going to an AO site would not guarantee the curtesy that is due.

Some kids can seem too noisy, too early but as campsites are generally quiet places, normal volume (for a child) can seem excessively loud. As other posters have mentioned, other 'normal' sounds (car doors, dogs barking, etc.) are all amplified.

We have a family rule - no talking above a whisper level until we've heard the second whistling kettle!

Camp departure times can be a problem but one we have solved by just booking an extra day.
unfortunately we couldn't avoid the 5 am pack up this time as we had an RAC recovery booked for midday.
So apologies to all those at Shortland's Farm yesterday, oh except for the group in the top corner of the field who kept everyone awake with there music and talking, the previous night.

I don't mind the sound of little kids playing at all. That's what they're supposed to do and it sound lovely to me. It's the adults braying at them from halfway across the field that get up my nose.

Oh, one day at Beeches Farm the people in the next tent sang! The mum sang mostly but so did the others. It was wonderful! I wish I could sing tunefully as I go about my business
