Yup - an ex baby-wearing Dad here! (my youngest is five)
We started with a baby bjorn, moved on to various ring slings, wrap slings, hotslings, macpac framed carrier and a beco.
If my wife were typing, this could be a very long post...
I think on balance we preferred the semi-structuredness of the beco...

I think my library has an action baby sling but ive never used it. I had a mei tai when my little one was younger, just didnt seem to support as well as he got heavier but i know plenty that use them with older heavier children. again its personal preference.
Try looking at http://www.lovetobenatural.co.uk/

This should give you some idea about quality and different products :)
I have used an r&r (rose and rebellion) buckled carrier, a connecta buckled carrier, a snugiwraps mei tai, a hopp tye mei tai, a melkaj mei tai - and countless woven wraps :)I prefer a woven wrap in general for support and comfort but for quick use and smaller pack size i prefer my connecta. Should be able to buy for around £60.
If you are on facebook there is a whole world of second hand and preloved groups and selling pages, happy to send you some links if you are interested. xx
