September is pretty good for camping in my view, no crowds, lower prices, and the weather is still usually nice.
What's not to like? As others say, a fan heater for the evenings (we have in the past been known to have to use that in July and August, the weather is never guaranteed even then!)
You may as well go for it before your kids get to school age and you have to face the tyranny of 'no term time holidays or else' (ridiculous and wrong in my view, my lot did it and flourished, in fact they were educationally enriched by it, but that is another story!)
When our last one finishes A levels and hence school in a couple of years, we will be taking full advantage of the out of season benefits of nice clear campsites and lower prices as well as plenty of availability, even in the most congested summer spots!
