I don't really have a definition in my mind of glamping. Certainly the big yurts with all mod. cons. are very glampacious! For the tent fraternity I suppose my instinctive watershed is the inflatable sofa! If you have one your tent is very glam. If you only have chairs you are roughing it!

Most people I know who have camped say proper camping is no electric etc
We have done both but stick to EHU now, phones for us, not because I use it for calls but because I use it as a camera. The teens have their gadgets charged and we have a lamp. My hair dryer too because the morning and evenings when showering normally takes place is chilly so I don't like daughters having wet hair. I've just purchased a heater aswell for our next trip in two weeks,
We take our Xmas lights to put round the tent too :-)
I guess we are glamping

I'm currently sat in my tent listening to the radio, using ehu for cool box, radio and charging phone for more picture taking tommorow. :)

My daughter says we glamp - but she does the very basics. She has worked at summer festivals and takes only the very basic stuff - even some of her food is dehydrated food so that nothing goes off. She is also is a Brownie leader and took 28 little camplets on holiday recently and the Brownies still do basic stuff.
We on the other hand have EHU, camp beds, sims, kettle, lights, fridge, halogen oven, heater - but no beautifying bits like hairdryer or straighteners - I don't do that when camping. But, heaven forbid, we also have a carpet and camping slippers - now according to her - that is glamping.
Now, I have seen many tents inside and out as I walk back and forth at campsites and I think that I know a thing or two more than her - and in my opinion, we certainly do not glamp! We are, as many of you who have written up above before me are, what I call comfortable. After all it is our holiday home.
Hmmmm, she does like camping with us though!

Imo, glamping is when you bring stuff purely for prettifying, not for comfort.

Mind you, we're probably at the "ascetic" end of the scale to some minds - we don't do EHU (charge phones in car, have hair straighteners that work from the cigarette lighter, use a cool bag or box). We have a comfy bed, warm bedding, a cooker that works fine and a table and chairs - we find that's all we need.

What's important to me, though, is that everyone gets the camping trip they enjoy, whether they're full-on glampers or backpackers with the most basic kit.

Love "shamping" for people who stay in pre-erected yurts etc though!

Maybe I've used incorrect terminology, but I thought how my family and I camped was glamping.

I do have ehu and non essential items - and we do take our little bits of luxury with us.

We can't afford a holiday cottage and we aren't yet ready to buy a caravan neither, so our tent is our holiday home, we like to have matching decorative items, and love the tent all pretty and welcoming ( what we feel is welcoming) it feels very luxurious to us when we set up, and we feel a sense of pride in having a little affordable retreat to escape to.

It's def not everyone's cup of tea how I do this, but I've always thought it would be sad to see camping as a dying preference, this way that I do mine hopefully shows people that it's still a wonderful fantastic hobby/way to holiday.

So many people hate the idea of camping but I've managed to convert 9 friends into joining and purchasing tents after seeing it as a little home from home, again an affordable retreat

Sorry if I've babbled

I'm a glamper - it's all bells and whistles here.
However, I earned my camping stripes years ago, in our wee dome tent and just the basics. We camped like that for a long time. Never even used a campsite till about four years ago.
Nowadays with three kids we like a bit more of the home comforts, and there's nothing wrong with that.
