We have just returned from our 3rd camping trip and have a few questions that we would appreciate advice on!
Awning or front extension? We can't really decide on which to go for (we have the Montana 6P.
Cooking inside the tent? I am dead against the idea but my husband doesn't see the harm in it. The people in the tent next to us were all set up for cooking inside theirs. What is the general consensus?
When we opened up the tent this time, there was a lot of strange marks which looked a lot like bird poo (but couldn't have been!) - some crusty lumps (eugh - sorry!) and other just blackish marks. They have proved to be very difficult to clean off and the marks remain. Anyone know what this could be and how to prevent more? They definitely hadn't been there when we took the tent down.
And lastly - any good recommendations for roof boxes?!
We just have a simple Sun-Canopy for our Tent, as that was the only option, but it does make a vast difference.
We would never dream of cooking inside the Tent, we have a specific Kitchen Tent for cooking duties, a Cabanon PN20, great for storing all the food stuffs etc, and frees up loads of space in the main Tent.
Can't help with the stains on your Tent, we have a Cotton Canvas Tent and always pack away bone dry so have never experienced the situation you have found.
As for RoofBox we recently bought a Kamei Delphin 380 from the roofbox co with 5% discount via UKS! and no carriage as I collected it.
Would have gone for the Kamei Husky XL, but would have been a little to long for our VW Golf, along with being over budget.
With the sloped front of the 6p the awning gives you more space than the extension would as the awning is also sloped like the tent, so the extension in the middle will be alot shorter then the awning.
The extension is cheaper and shorter overall than the awning though, and some sites you may struggle to get the tent on with awning as its over 8m long.
Cooking, if you have the awning or extension on then i would cook in there, with door open if its the awning.
just take the usual precautions plenty of ventilation and good stable surface and not to close to the fabric!
We cook in our porch and keep all the vents open and it's got a bathtub ground sheet. I don't think I would want to cook anything more than hot chocolate in the main tent as the cooking smells and lack of ventilation would not be good. If your getting a extension that would be the best place to cook.
We have an open-ended front extension with our tent which we cook in (as close to the opening as possible). We would never cook inside the tent because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Wonder if the marks on your tent might be damp spores?
On the roofbox question, we've had two Thule roofboxes. Recently we've had to upgrade to be biggest and longest we could find (Thule Motion 900) because of the amount of gear we tend to take with us
I would not cook in the tent personally, safety smells etc. so I cook outside but under cover still. here is a pic of one of my setups to may be give you an idea of what you can do!!
