I'm considering 2 used tents. 1 is a 12 month old lightly used Montana 6 including the canopy and footprint and carpet.
The other is a Vermont XL 3 years old but fairly lightly used (4 times) for the age, comes with carpet and footprint plus a load of extras, some I don't need.
I would go for the Montana personally, purely on pitching ease.....the Vermont XL is a beauty and a beast all in one package.....she's huge and would be reflected in the pitching time and effort, saying that, once she's up...she's a campers mansion, loads of space.
The Montana is a very popular tent due to its design and is easier to pitch.....smaller, yet the lay out is a very popular and very often imitated formula....good luck.
Thanks. I've gone for the Vermont XL after all. We had a kalahari 10 before so am used to all the space in honesty. And I'm sure well sus the pitching. I like the idea of it all being in one and not a tent and a porch if that makes sense. There's only 4 of us but the kids are you and don't travel light!!
I had the same thoughts at the time we bought ours and went for the space option.
Just returned from a trip with our Vermont XL. It was hell to pitch in the winds of ex-Bertha (thank you to all the helpers that came to help pitch), but once she was up, she was solid. (I have also been able to pitch solo using the Yeomans method shown on youtube).
At one point, this past fortnight, we dropped the middle section and had 14 adults and 4 children able to sit in relative comfort avoiding the rain and cold for that night.
Good luck with your new purchase.

Kinky is using using a feather; wierd is using a whole damn chicken!
Tent specifics aside, before going any further, I'd be tempted to ask the sellers for more info on usage. "Used 4 times in 3 years" means absolutely nothing to anyone. It's the number of nights use that gives much more indication of wear/exposure to UV rays etc.
4 trips at 30 nights per trip is much less preferable to 10 trips at 2 nights each, of course. OK, I'm exaggerating for effect, but in principle, it's worth finding out just how long these tents have spent exposed to the weather. Number of trips, or age in years, isn't particularly relevant... in my opinion!
------------- 2024: 38 nights thus far...
2023: 47 nights
2022: 40 nights
2021: 30 nights
2020: Just 24 nights
2019: A personal best 50 nights
2018: Just the 30 nights
2017: 34 nights
2016: 32 nights
2015: 38 nights
2014: 34 nights
2013: 36 nights
From July 2012: 23 nights
Should be OK - our Vermont was bought in 2008 and has spent weeks and weeks during the summer on French and Italian campsites, plus weekends here in the UK.
It's still fine although a little faded, weatherproof and as strong as a horse.
Keep it away from trees and pack it away dry, no worries.
