I saw it in the Express, the little girl was lucky, I wouldn't think it would put them off camping again as this is a really extreme and rare event, hopefully it wont anyway.

That's is horrendous! The kids are all very lucky indeed. We were packing up to come home from Northumberland that day and I remember how windy it was. That is freak weather at its worse.

I'm shocked reading that but can only imagine how the poor parents felt: what a freak of nature. And so glad the little ones are pretty much OK physically following their ordeal, let's hope they manage to get over this experience emotionally too.

Terrifying. So glad they're all ok - it could have been so much worse.

Thankfully, I'm confident that this will never happen to us. Any tornado bad enough to lift our combined weight into the air would flatten half the country!

Last summer we saw something very similar, thankfully not on a campsite. The trees in our garden were totally still but the trees 2 gardens down we're crashing around like in a massive storm. Every house in a diagonal line across the village had some or all their ridge tiles ripped off. Can only imagine how terrifying an experiencing this would have been for the poor kids. Hope they don't stop camping.

It's a freak accident, not something to generally worry about. Poor wee souls though.

On a more everyday note though how often do you see parents letting even tiny tots "help" set up, even on windy days? You don't need freak tornados for a flysheet to get away from you on a windy day and small kids can and do get caught up in the folds. A loose tent in the wind can drag a big grown man...or two or three. Keep younger kids in the car or the swing park when dealing with tent canvas on a windy day.

It would be nice if vango or a big name tent maker,or camp shop would donate some new camping gear to the family .

on our first camping trip it was windy. me and my 9 year old was putting up the tent I asked my 5 year old girl to hold the front pole of the tent while she was holding it a gust of wind came lifted the tent into my car my 5 year got lifted with it. only for a few seconds as I shouted to let go.
