The thing that annoys me when you go to book and look at the tariff you see caravan and awning is one price but when you check for the tent find price is the same but just for the tent and if you want a gazebo or tent for cooking you have to pay for it we were asked to pay £5.00 a night on top of the cost of the tent for each night on a site this year for a small covered cooking utility tent and it would pitch in the area that was marked off for our pitch it was not that we were stopping some one else pitching something there,
I noticed that sometimes my 4 man tent is the same price of a caravan? What's that all about? I try to stick to tent only sites and the price is sometimes only a fiver a night! I hate paying for my dog - some sites charge 2 quid for him which isn't right but if I want the nice site I have to pay it.
i just don't use those sites simple . That said i do understand the extra charge when there is Mahoosive tent and a gazebo and a utility plus windbreaks extra
I am planning a trip to the Scilly Isles at some point in the future, I have found all the sites over there extremely expensive charging per person, and a surcharge the bigger the tent etc etc, charging for under 4 year olds, when we have a 3 year old. I guess its because of the nature of the place and not having much competition to keep prices down. It doesn't mean its right or fair though but if we want to go we will have to pay the cash or stay on mainland u.k. and moan about it.
I have been camping just 3 times this year (used to go every weekend once upon a time). I have used small sites that I have been to before and know charge reasonable prices. I am hoping to get a couple more trips in before winter hits, but getting bored with my usual haunts I have just started searching around for somewhere new to go.
I have been absolutely astounded at the prices being charged now. I appreciate that many campsites are still charging high season rates until next week but I seem to be pretty well priced out of camping I think...simply can't afford it any more.
Hopefully my good old faithful campsites won't get greedy and I will be able to continue camping for a few more years yet but prices are getting ridiculous...certainly becoming a holiday only the rich can afford.
Considering all the different threads that have been coming in fast and furious about campsite charges this year, it's obviously not just me who is suffering.
In May went to a site that charged per size of tent, my friend booked it as a 4 man but officially it's a 6 man. If we had paid the 6 man then it would have cost more than a caravan when it's the same size as a caravan and they got their awnings included in the price! if we'd have taken the Diablo 900 then no problem to paying fir a large tent. We paid £2 per night for gazebo . I don't mind what I pay if I think its fair.
I just avoid sites that are too expensive - as I camp on my own in my tent I object to paying the same as a family of 4. Sadly the majority of sites make no distinction between 4 people and just one person :(
Last site I went to was £4 for pitch £4.50 per adult which is perfectly reasonable.
The last site I stayed at was £6 per adult no other outlay, no extras, dogs free. Fab facilities. I have never except the mantra, "you get what you pay for" those who do, may except and willing to pay exhorbatant prices.

I'm currently laying in bed in my tent at littlesea in weymouth. Lovely site. It was £145 for 7 night extra large electric pitch. With two dogs so a good price. Some are so expensive. If places charged for windbreakers I would be stuck as we have two to create a little garden for the dogs. :)
