Well after a week in Mablethorpe surviving 45mph winds (reported not measured) a couple of weeks ago and getting rescued as the tent collapsed while we were all asleep by haven safety we eventually dismantled it (after first returning for another 3 nights) to find 3 of the graphite poles has cracked length ways, I have duct taped them up for now but plan to fix them before the next trip.

The tent is a gelert corona 6 so I'm guessing gelert poles will be a direct replacement?

It has given us confidence after surviving that to go a bit further afield (the wife wants to try France but I get set holidays and it seems next years will be during school time)

Anyway back to the poles, would it be better to just get the same number of poles and some elastic and get all new or unthread the current ones and just replace the damaged ones?

I'm also going to get some proofer as the tent was letting in a small fine mist of water but as it got flooded it may of been condensation forming on the inside dropping.

Either way we are now camping converts and even a disaster such as that has kept us keen.

On a side note the tent next to us was a steel pole (very similar to an out well montana/ high gear frontier style and didn't seem to blink as we were collapsing! is this a stronger tent design as it made a new tent very tempting :)

Have camped in Cornwall regularly for many years and the site we use usually has very strong winds at some point during our fortnights stay, probably because it is sited near an estuary. I would only use a steel poled tent there or will be taking a Karsten tent there next year which are storm resistant.

I would say buy a new tent, you know you want to.17

Can't help you re the pole repair but yes, steel poles are more resilient than the grp poles because there is very little to no flex in them.

However, steel poled tents are much heavier in transit due to the weight of the poles and can be really heavy to lift to put the pin in the bottom.

I noticed the difference last night when I did a test pitch of my new glendale 5 which has a grp full length pole at the very back and it was so much easier to lift compared to the steel poles in the main section of the tent or compared the corado 6 I sold.
