First post on here so please go easy.

I have searched for forum but was unable to find the answer I'm after

Anyway I wanna use fabsil on a tent I have but understand the fabsil can kill grass
If I was to a double layer of thin plastic sheet around my tent and push it under the tent to catch any run off would this stop it killing the grass
Is it the liquid itself or vapour that can kill the grass?? May seem like a silly question to some but I've never used fabsil before and don't wanna kill the lawn.

Good question!

Never used it, but I imagine any run-off from the tent fabric would ultimately run off the plastic sheet onto the grass you were trying to protect, unless absorbed by, say, layers of newspaper, for example?

"Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarProof® can be applied to wet or dry synthetic fabrics. It is WaterBased, non-aerosol, non-flammable, non-hazardous and environmentally friendly. It contains no harmful solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and is completely fluorocarbon free.", according to their website, so might be worth considering instead.

I've kinda already got fabsil(on order).
Guess I'm going to have to think very much before using

I'd be more shocked if it didn't..
Got second hand off ebay, sadly seller wasn't honest(kinda used the right wording to cover themselves) tent as seen better days so Thought I'd give it a go, not much to lose really
If I get a season out of it I'll be happy, then re-sell but be honest and say it as spares or repairs to try and get some money back

I bought my tent as an ex display model and due to rain water clearly not beading on the outside I decided to fabsil it.

I used 600ml spray cans after erecting the tent in the middle of my lawn. Being spray cans I don't think there was any run off. It would have been extremely minimal if there was but if you read the instructions it tells you to wipe over any runs with a cloth immediately.

In fact I did spray right down to the bottom of the tent so probably sprayed the lawn as well and there was certainly no damage to the lawn.

I would take heed of the chemical warnings though. I think I got too close and breathed in too much of the vapour and felt ill for a couple of days after using it. My feeling ill might not have had anything to do with Fabsil but I will certainly use a face mask if I do it again and maybe even eye protection.

If you are using brush on Fabsil then you are more likely to have run off so I would paint with one hand and have a cloth ready in the other. It does soak in to the material quickly so I would be surprised if enough would run off to damage a lawn.

Don't sue me if it does though

fabsil is a much better waterproofing product than nikwax, so you should be fine

go with the standard fabsil and not the gold though (advised from graingers)
