We have an S max for the week on test drive before ordering new company car (towbars not an option)

Test car has a panoramic sun roof and we are thinking we would like to keep that as with the blacked out windows it looks very dark in the back.

Does anyone use a roof box on one with the sunroof and any problems?

Hi I don't have the Pan roof on my S-Max, but belong to the S-Max owners forum. Lots of advice and help with Pan roof - roof bar. There's no problem with them and a box - other than they are 'special' bars for the pan roof, rather then the regular ones.

here's one thread to get you started

Yes I do, titanium - x sport I originally had the Thule bars where they grip to the edges but after they slightly dented them I decided to sell and get the ford ones which screw in to the roof a lot better and no worries either as we have the largest Thule box (780 ltrs or so) and have and no issues apart from having to pay for the dent removal :-)

Hi, we have the Smax with pan roof. We have Thurle roof bars and use roof box for camping with no issues at all. Couldn't do without it!

Just stumbled across your post here - we specialise in the hiring out of Thule products and I also own an S-Max.

I am surprised to read that the Thule product (that doesn't use the fixed points) might have damaged the vehicle - the design is such that there should only be rubber or rubber coated metal that is on the car's paintwork to absolutely minimise any possibility of damage. We've fitted numerous in the past without issue.

There is however, one specific limitation of the pan-roof that isn't mentioned in this post that is the maximum allowable load. With the fixed points the roofbars are the limiting factor at 75KG. With the pan-roof this maximum load is stated as reducing to 40KG on the roofbars - once you've allowed for the roofbox and that effectively leaves you with in the region of 25KG of storage which is pretty low.

We advise our customers of this limit as we are duty bound to do so but equally I'm aware that it has been exceeded by some margin.

Hope that helps.
Nigel

Hi Welwyn Roofbox hire.

I just found this post. I have 2011 S-Max Titanium X Sport with pan-roof. Do you mean it is 75KG maximum when you use the fixed points and 40KG maximum when you don't use fixed points, or do you mean it is 40KG for S-Max with Pan-Roof regardless of both mounting methods?

The manual states 76KG but it is a generic manual with covers S-Max and Galaxy.

Thanks in advance!
