Such a shame that some folks' behaviour has led to this.

Dance before the storm and don't look back to where you've been.

If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, you obviously haven't grasped the gravity of the situation.

I don't want it I just need it.

They do I general, those who camp who are not really campers, only want a party, drinking, chopping down branches to make a fire generally destroying the environment. Bylaws are now being introduced more widespread.

There is a legal right of access to land but there's a code of conduct. As heath63 says, many of those who abuse the system aren't what we'd call campers.

It has been a problem for many years. I have witnessed the drunken idiots whilst wild camping myself and gave them a wide berth and occasionally moved on to get away from the area they are in..

To be honest I don't think it will affect the decent outdoors people who do adhere to the country code and leave as found.
I have often cleaned up areas whilst out and about as it makes me angry to come across things thrown away that could harm the wildlife.

Over the years I have chatted to several people who work in the area and its not folks like me they want to get rid of and hopefully that will continue to be the case.

I do agree however that the neds should be moved on and charged with any damage they cause and severely dealt with.

Wee fella I know who knows I go camping...Approaches me the other week....."Was off camping the other week with the kids....Had a fire and everything" says he....

"Great" says I..."Tell me all about it" wish I hadn't bothered....Trip consisted of bottles of Buckfast(Tonic Wine) for him....And fizzy drinks and crisps for the kids...On enquiring if he managed to keep warm...I was told...."Yeah....Took an axe and saw with me...and cut one or two trees/bushes down....A bit smoky but we managed" says he.....I bit my tongue for a while them asked how he managed to transport his rubbish back (No transport) "No problemo" says he...Left it in a nice neat pile well off the beaten track"...I went back to biting my tongue .....Waste of breath and energy trying to explain some of the glaring faults of his trip as he left me with a couldn't care less attitude....

Don't want to sound rude nor smug...But my 1st thought was..."You must tell me when you are off again...So I can head in the exact opposite direction".......

Jelboy.

It's unfortunate but you carnt legislate for Stuppid lazy argont people The only worrie I would have regards new bylaws is it's the thin edge of the wedge and could be used by those that never agreed with the right to roam in the first place .

The Leadhills used to be a favourite area for me when wildcamping.

Not anymore. It has been totally trashed by loutish campers and we ain't talking just litter here. I have seen burnt-out caravans and burnt out cars just left strewn across once really beautiful picnic spots.

I live close to Loch Lomond and if these bye-laws stop Loch Lomond turning into another Leadhills, then bring them on.

Not if they come to England!

Off to the cairngorms myself soon & as an Englishman will be partaking of the freedom of Scotland. Thankyou Scotland!

Off course I never wildcamp in England. Honest.

Lomonds been a problem for many years before the laws allowing wild camping came in. It's a tragedy how some folk treat that & other areas.

For anyone wanting to camp on the East side of Loch Lomond there is a site, its a Forestry site with room for around 30 tents on the shores of the Loch.
It will give you a sort of wild camp feel, it has composting toilets, dishwashing area and drinking water. There are no showers and I believe alcohol is not allowed.

There are a couple of other sites but this one is the nearest thing to wild camping and there are wardens who manage the site.

Its on the campsite search : Sallochy Campsite, Rowardennan. There is a web link where you will have to navigate a wee bit to get the campsite link.

I can personally confirm and underline Lobey's observations on the Leadhills "Camping" area as I drove over that road less than six weeks ago....An absolute TIP is the only way to describe a once beautiful spot...

I can remember passing there years ago....And except for yellowed grass where tents had been pitched you would not have known anyone had been there....NOW.....Piles of litter and rubbish all over....Consisting of mostly beer cans and bottles.....Why oh WHY can't they take it home with them??????
