do people leave there tent and set up over night?
more for a day trip someone with a night stop over for extra time there

Yes we leave our big tent set up. Then go off Seakayaking backpacking etc. We alway let the owner of the site know what we are doing and choose sites carefully. So far every owner has been fine and kept an eye on it while we were away.
We met a family a few years back that pitched up then went off to a wedding the next morning. They stayed at the reception hotel and returned the following day for 3 more nights. A first for me seeing people suited and booted lady in a hat on a campsite. I know quite a few in caravans and motohomes do it.

I once left my tent on site for four weeks. Set it up the first weekend and commuted back home for work each Monday, returning to site after work on the Friday. The site warden and her brother kept an eye on it for me and it was fine.
