I just built a simple 5' x 3' x 18" high trailer with a steel frame from honeyfield trailers and used mini wheels. The sides and base were ply and used a simple PVC cover with elastics. I built this in 1980 and only recently had to replace the cover and timbers despite storing outdoors.

This took a big 1980s frame tent with all the gear and has since proved invaluable over and over again. It is useful having the top open for putting big things in like furniture or son's broken down motorbike etc. The back slotted out.

Security was never a problem. We did the same as we do now with the caravan and Dandy. We just do not leave it unattended enroute. It's easy to go in separately for toilet and to buy sandwiches and tea etc.
