For DH and I? both buget and space in the car are tight so which would be best?

A double sim is really, really bulky and it a brute to roll. Try two singles and connect them together with a fitted sheet. Alternatively if you end up with Thermarests they have a fixing kit available. The Thermarests are an investment buy.

Thanks,, I'm not really that bothered about fitting them together, we'll be sharing the tent with too small children so they are strictly for sleeping.

ive just taken a look at aldi and it seems they are going to be doing there camping gear again very soon, might be worth hanging fire for something from them?

We have 2 single SIMS on a double bed and it's comfy and, as Campernic said, not so bulky. Just "tie it all together" with a fitted sheet!
Never mind about the other and 2 small children - first and foremost it is about comfort (perhaps I'm getting old) - when you're camping it is about firstly, space - not your ET sort - but space in the car and then it's about comfort - as I said before 2 singles are really comfy!!

Singles definitely better for car packing (ours go in rear footwell) you aren't as restricted as to where you put them or if you want to move them and cheaper to replace if one does get damaged. We've got Aldi ones for the kids and Vango 7.5cm ones for us. Kids ones are fine but the Vango ones are so much better and wider too.

we started out with 4 aldi SIMS (£12.99 each at the time)and the children still use them, I have since upgraded myself to a 7.5cm costco SIM then a 10cm Gelert Xpedation SIM. Two of the Aldi ones (one on top of the other) are good too.

We have 2 single Therm-a-Rests which have been regularly used since 2003 and they are as good as when we first bought them. Get my vote every time.

If space in the car is an issue then I recomend you have a look at the Exped Synmat range.

We have a double outwell 7cm (or 7.5cm? can't remember!) and, oh my, is it a swine to roll and it's about the same size as our tent packed! We got the boys outwell kids ones which are shorter than a normal single but are really compact so I figure it kind offsets the packing bulk of the double. Also we've used the double as a spare bed for us when we've had a house full of family so worth it for that use too.

Yep, another vote here for ThermaRest we got 2 DreamTime XL's back in 2008 they fasten together with embedded connectors to make a large double bed.

We use them for our fortnight campings in the South East of France during July each year, they have been sublime.

And they definitely do what it says on the tin.

Thanks for the advice, doubles sound a pain. I'm wondering about a 5cm sim with a cheap roll mat uder it. Later we can upgrade our sims and pass these ones on to the kids.
