Just wondered if anybody has any recommendations on a double sleeping bag that can turn into 2 singles. I like the look of the outwell constellation double but does seem a bit pricey. Reason for the double is my little monster likes to snuggle in with us at silly o'clock and it's not really working in a single. We tried a duvet and surprise suprise I end up with none of it on me.
mainly because those of us that have tried a double know that they are cold! double sleeping bags always will be due to if 2 are in it then there is going to be a big air gap between you and if you sleep back to back then everything down to your waist will be frozen!
also those that do want a double bag, tend to buy 2 singles and make sure that one had a righthand zip and the other a left zip
Completely agree with the cold gap thing. We mainly gonna be camping in summer season and it will also be used when we stay at family houses. Another question then. Would 2 single liners in a double work?
are you newly married Nokesy? cant help wonder because any of us that have been married beyond the first couple of years would put comfort ahead of this! lol ok so your son wants a cuddle fine, but get 2 single sleeping bags for yourselves and when he wants to join you tell him to get his own sleeping bag in the middle of you both, much warmer for all, and freedom to move without being pinned up by the zip with a freezing cold back
We have the outwell camper lux bags which can be used as either singles or zipped together. I'm usually warmer when they're used as a double as hubby is like a radiator!
We have 2 zip-together down bags that are lovely and warm. Never, ever had a draft down the middle. Trouble is, we can't get replacements & they're getting a bit old. As are we, we've been camping together for 40 years. And yes we do still want a double sleeping bag so we can snuggle up.
Thanks for the replys guys. The newly married comment did make me chuckle. Yes we all like the odd cuddle iv been married ten years. I would like the single sleeping bags as there is more room to move. I do a bit of carp fishing and have a nice little set up with bed hair huge bag and lovely bivvy. However the double bag is just an idea to multipurpose and mainly used in summer months
We have a vango lunar double that can be used as a double or 2 singles. If I suspect I might get a draught down my back when sharing I wrap a fleece blanket around my head and upper body, currently sharing a double duvet with my youngest and do this.
We have a Vacanza by Outwell Star Double Sleeping Bag. Don't mind it being a double and never got too cold from it. We tend to camp in the warmer months though, when it has been too cold, we've popped a hot water bottle in and added an extra layer or two. Not sure if it can be zipped into two singles though as never tried, looks like it probably could. Don't think it's sold anymore though.
We have the Outwell Cedar double sleeping bag and find it really warm as a double with no cold spots. We've also zipped it as 2 singles and it was fine, though I personally found it a bit on the small side. We do also have a double duvet over the top of us!
We used to have 2 Coleman Hampton sleeping bags and zipped them together, as they are XL singles it gives a big more room than the double and fits the king sized aero bed.. This set up lasted for over 12 years. We've now upgraded to 2 Coleman Big Game bags which are again XL but heavier and don't squish down very small when packed and weren't cheap but should last at least as long.
