Well from what I see and read here people don't have enough room in their cars for their own camping gear let alone trying to fit someone else's in too ;)

campers are 99.9% an honest bunch of holiday makers , I'm sure the stats of your average hotel room being burgled are much higher than theft from a tent ( apart from a occasional teenage misdemeanour) , gave up worrying about it a long time ago. love thy neighbour never had a single thing stolen that I know of.

We always lock valuables including tv etc in the car when we go out. Rest of the stuff chairs etc we leave in the secured awning. We never leave anything outside just in case so no one is tempted. I have to state though that in 42 years of camping we have only once had anything taken and that was just a few food items (Tins etc)that we had left outside.

Only had one human theft - someone "borrowed" some of my tent pegs (Deltas) - if they'd bothered asking, I had plenty to spare! Fair does, they owned up (camping newbies) and returned my Deltas, gave them a set of basic pegs to keep and forgot about it. They obviously felt bad about it though as my mates brought back a bottle of wine (I'd left crack of dawn to get home) by way of apology Other removals have been down to firstly, my stupidity in leaving food about and secondly, the smartness of birds and livestock living round a campsite!

Normally camp as a group of friends attending events and we're all guilty of leaving chairs, tables out. The only time we've had an issue was coming back from a long day to find our equipment being occupied by other campers. That was interesting and dealt with. But that's almost unique on sites.

I don't have techie stuff like tvs etc with me - I'm a get away from it camper but I do have very expensive equipment to do with our hobby - that's always locked in the car.

Don't worry, just apply common sense to the expensive and easily portable stuff, deter the livestock by making sure food is not handy - the vast majority of campers are very honest and they can be observant - that's how I found out about my Deltas. Relax and enjoy!

I definitely think you need to take the mention of the ponies stealing food seriously. We camped there at brockenhurst and our neighbours tent had been chewed up as they had left some food on a table inside the tent all zipped up. The horses just chewed through the tent till they got the food.

Keep everything in plastic tubs.
