Heya,
We are going camping in the new forest soon at a site with no toilets/showers. My mother in law is now joining us...! So there will be myself, my husband, my MIL, my brother (15), my daughter(aged 5) and my son (aged 4).
The tent sleeps 8 and all sleeping areas will be taken up. Husband and I have been wondering how we are all going to use the portable toilet with some privacy??
Does anyone use the toilet tents? Are they something seen commonly or would it be strange? Also do campsites allow them in the same space or do you have to pay more?
We have a toilet tent and always set it up when away for more than a few nights, Its always tucked away as best as possible however as i dont really want to be looking at it so I can assume others dont either.
We only use the toilet for those late night calls however I still dont like the toilet being used in the main tent if possible. With 2 young boys its far better it being left outside, and I say that from experience
We use a easycamp annexe tent more room than a toilet tent
Also take gel hand wash, baby wipes, plenty of loo rolls. Fluid for the
Porta potti.
A small stand for a bowl to have a wash enough to do the essential
Bits.
We have done this many times and used a toilet tent. If the site has no facilities then they can't object and even on a site with facilities no-one has ever asked us to pay more.
We have a battery operated hand held shower which we use with a trug. Mind you if you are just away for a weekend and the weather isn't hot baby wipes will do.
Our Scouts use toilet tents when they go away, some are better than others. Don't go for a too cheaper one! They happily use a porta-potty, in fact we use when I was Guide many years ago. We made our own wash bowl stands with 3 bamboo canes, if you're clever you might be able to make a loo roll holder too.
Hand gel is only really suitable for 3 applications before needing use soap water, or so one of first aid trainers told us recently.
Some of the car shows we go to have pretty awful showers, so we nearly always end up having a strip wash. Cheap trug is ideal for this.
