Our beloved kampa .croyde is 5 years old, we have used it a lot snd had our money's worth out of it but are absolutely gutted that this year the roof fabric seems to have had it, it's not leaking but it's got about three little linear tears in it which we repaired eith tenacious tape then yesterday hubby put his hand on the roof from inside and his hand when straight through it snd created a long tear.
My question is, is there anything I could have done to prevent this happening? I have never treated it eith anything, should I have done? Or is it to be expected after five years of using it about 25 nights a year.
We have been extremely fortunate to camp in a lot of sunny weather which I don't suppose has helped

It is material failure brought on by UV exposure.
It can't be helped and is exactly what happened to us last year too.
The material felt like rice paper in the end.
The material has reached the end of its useful life.
We used Fabsil to treat ours but I can't say for certain that it either extended or postponed the inevitable.

Ok thanks folks, as long as I know I couldn't have done anything to prevent it! It's served us so well that we are going to get another Kampa Croyde, that way the carpet etc will all still fit and we will have some spare poles.
Looks like I need to buy a new one very soon especially as we are away again this weekend!

Don't be surprised if the materials have changed slightly since your original purchase. I know that other manufacturers have reduced the specification of their materials to cut costs.

Following your advice debs (and others on here!) we bought a 2015 Croyde 6 to replace our ageing Lichfield Sandwood, I don't think you will be disappointed as if anything the tent has got better than the older ones, in particular the front door which now opens right up! Another neat change is that the curtains roll down to the bottom to stow in pockets and toggle closed at the top.
As for spec not knowing the fabric weight of the old model you might want to compare it to the new spec which is now 75D with a 5000mm HH. The only other thing to point out is that the two bedroom pods of the older versions is now split into 3 equal size ones but the dividing curtains can be rolled up to make one large or one large and one small pod.
Also watch for quality control issues, we had a number with our new tent which were all handled superbly by Kampa and the retailer, I can thoroughly recommend thefamilytentshop.com, superb service. They also do next day delivery, they even phoned within an hour of placing the order online to arrange the delivery.
