We use a Kampa Portaflush. The reasons for having one are it's easier than kitting up for a march to the loo's at 3am. We like to camp in the best spots for a view etc not nearest the toilet's. Camping is meant to be enjoyable so not having to get dressed in the wee small hours to go to the loo and my sleeping bag being still warm when i get back in it has to be a good thing.
We don't take it on every trip only the one's that we know we may have a bit of a hike to the loo's.

Another Kampa Khazi owner here, I have children but its me that uses it at night only if I need too 
It is only used at night, where its put in a convenient place in living area on special mat, then in day, just his away in bedroom pod.
I used to use a tiny bit of water with zoflora in the bottom, but after just coming back from recent holiday, I'm now a paid up member of the cat litter brigade. It doesn't have any smell other than a mild wood shaving smell, I bought the cheapest wood pellet cat litter I could find and it worked perfectly, I double bagged the bucket, before putting some handfuls of litter in.
The kampa Khazi is big, although there is storage within the bucket, I put a bag of litter and bin bags in. Just to clarify number 1's only, though in an emergency it could be used I suppose for the other, as its no different to disposable nappies in a nappy sack.

We just had a bucket. It was absolutely fine.
But my daughter is a princess and won't wee in a bucket. So I bought a Kampa khazi. To be honest, it is a bit easier for grown ups than hovering over a bucket, so I'm happy.
Daughter still won't use it. She would rather walk to the toilet block (no matter how far away it is) or wait for her bladder to explode!
The Kampa khazi has a wider base than top, so is more stable, so I don't worry about it tipping over as much as I did with the bucket.

I have a portable toilet as I always need a wee in the night! We have a Orchy 500 which technically has 2 bedrooms but we don't have the divider in so technically it's one big bedroom so we share it with the toilet and wardrobe. lol

When we camped in the tent years ago we always used an ordinary bucket - (with or without kids i've always had to go through the night.). Just returned to tenting and bought the Kampa Khazi(used with a drop of zoflora). Luxury or what. What a difference having a stable receptacle with a lid!

We have never had one. Toilet/potty trained youngest child as school started back in Sept last year.
He uses the potty or toilet at home and at a campsite at Whitsun he just used the toilet (did have to run a few times though!). Sometimes he went to the ladies and Mr F was running after him but unable to go in being a man.
If they need a wee in the night we just take them (and go for a wee too).
We limit drinks after dinner and encourage toilet trips. Such as 2 between dinner and bed and then 1 last wee too.

We use a bucket + lid for night time wee. Five of us, three under 10. Always seems to work fine.
I'm not bothered about walking it over to the toilets in the morning and have managed to avoid spillages through the toddler years!

I first tried a Norwegian army toilet frame what could be easyer than tie a bag up when full and then dispose of on the way out and it was great for a time until the quality of the bags rendered the thing useless. The bio bags became way to thin and rip and leak to the point I never used it again. Eco friendly yes just very poorly designed from the bag production. Kampin karzie is much better with a bit of pine disinfectant in the bottom. Get the one with a lid mind as someone admiring your waste is pretty weird.
