100% go for it, definitely worth the drive and we have never had any major traffic issues (she says, frantically crossing fingers, touching wood et al!)
We live in Bedford, and stopped over for a couple of nights in Glencoe last year on our way to Gairloch, and will be back that way at some point over July, after a week or so in North Cornwall, so as you can see we are not afraid of a long drive or two (we once drove from Bedford to Southern Italy with 5 kids in the car, in stages, admittedly!)
Will have a look at Jelboy's route, depending on where we end up it might be useful, thanks Jel!
