Hi all how can you tell how much is in a calour bottle as we are going away next week and I don't want to take a bottle which will run out but don't want to trade in a bottle a 1/4 full

Weigh cylinder then subtract tare weight (found on aluminium collar, probably in pounds and ounces) to find how much gas is left.

assuming they use the same regulators there's no need to start a new calor contract (£40) these seem a good price.

Some bottles have an indicator that tells you. You can buy magnetic indicators online although they get mixed reviews. Just search 'gas bottle indicator'. The other option is to weigh it and subtract the weight of the bottle, which I think is stamped on it or you can find out online.

Hi simonamyjakeuk - i picked up a 4.5kg CG Bottle last weekend for my campingaz double stove burner and it cost me a mere £16. Bargain :)

Hi just weigh the canister which comes out at 9.2 and its a blue 4.5 calour bottle but could not see a weight stamped on the bottle

Assuming that's 9.2kg, the empty cylinder weight should, I think, be approximately 5.7kg (slight variation between individual bottles) leaving you with 3.5kg of gas.

The actual tare weight should be stamped on the aluminium collar on the cylinder, but unless things have changed recently it will be in pounds and ounces so you'd need to convert that to kg.

We just take what we have, if it runs out then most campsites do an exchange, or most petrol stations. Take a shifting spanner in your tool kit and you'll be fine, (please note if you do forget your spanner somebody is sure to have one, has been learned from experience.)

3.5kg will last 2wks no probs. Buy a spring balance, couple of quid for weighing bottle. Its the only accurate way of finding how much gas is left.
