Hi we are camping in Berwick on Tweed 5th September for 7 nights, now when we tell people where we are going and that we are staying in our tent the reaction seems to be oh your brave it will be cold at night, having never stayed this far up country before could anyone in the know give us a clue how cold is cold? We have Kampa Pendine 8 tent, yes we have ehu so will be taken a fan heater and also electric blanket and extra blanket for top of the bed, is this enough. We are beginning to think for an extra £100 maybe better to go into accommodation and the weather can do what it likes.

It's only September - with our weather, anything could happen, which also means good stuff! If you have ehu and warm clothing and bedding and a good sense of humour, I'd take the gamble, frankly.

We had a great weekend one Halloween on the northumbrian coast, no ehu.

I'm going back in September, it's lovely that time of year.

Camping at Peterborough for an event in October, then onto Norfolk probably. Again with no ehu.

Don't let the name of the month put you off, just go :-D

Northumberland is beautiful, so have a great time. It will be fine with EHU, We sometimes go now and never have EHU. Its obviously colder up here than down south, even daytime temperatures never get as good as the south, but the scenery and coastline up here is worth it. To those who say that to you about the temperature at night, have they actually been up Northumberland camping?.

Well we're planning Dumfries and Galloway third week in sept with no EHU so if you're mad then we must be raving.
September can be lovely and warm and you just need to think layers. don't know of ur taking kids but if they really cold sleep together. I might take a hot water bottle if I remember and warm her bed up then swap it to ours but otherwise won't worry. We also have feather duvets rather than hollow fibre as the added air in them helps insulate. If you have a blanket have it under the duvet to not squash the insulating air out. I also put a blanket under ur mattress to insulate even if on a camp bed.

Better to go autumn than spring imho as everything has had the summer to warm up, ground, sea etc. in spring it's all still cold from winter.

WE have just came back from a week at Beadnell bay and spent time in the boarders.
The weather felt like September, but the area more than made up for it.

Thank you for the replies, we have been camping now for 6 years and in all that time have only been cold the once which was a September on Exmoor, Devon, on returning home checked this site and discovered you can use a electric blanket with an airbed so with electric blanket brought have not been cold since while camping. We are going to go in our tent and we will be well prepared for what ever the weather throws at us with any luck it will be a warm sunny September, have been looking forward to this visit to Northumberland for 6 mths now so will go and enjoy no matter what, only problem is will our thicker coats fit in the car with all the gear.

Hey I live in North East it's ok in September the snow helps keep the tent Earnhardt ha joking aside you be ok beautiful scenery & at night with EHU & Fan etc on it will be ok , enjoy 😎

I am not sure if you are aware or not but there is an annual Food and Beer Festival taking place in Berwick over the weekend of 4th to 6th of September.

I hit lucky on it a couple of years ago when staying on a caravan site in Berwick and forced my self to visit the Festival at least twice over the weekend.

Take a fan heater me thinks, only for night times though.

Any time around then, the evening temps start to dip.

Other than that, you'll be fine.

OR.....

We'll have an 'Indian summer' possibly and the weather will be fine.

Where are you camping?
If you are going to Ord House it is sheltered and away from the coast so you will be ok.

Berwick is great. It doesn't seem to get as cold as places further in land. We never seem to get the snow as badly as sone of the other towns. There are plenty of things to do indoors as well if the weather is poor.
