Thursday morning we're setting of to the Forest of Dean for a long weekend camping with a another 2 couples (who are both newbies to camping). I decided to check the weather this morning and it's forecast to rain pretty much for the whole weekend!

This is the first time we have gone with anyone else camping, and wondering what people do when it rains when camping in a group?

Obviously with just the 2 of us we can snuggle up in tent but with six of us it may be a little cosy? We don't have any extension's for cooking so thinking of buying an electric Kampa hob?

Any suggestions would be great, Thanks

Pack the brollies and Mac's and go out and enjoy the area - plenty to do even if it does rain.
As a FOD native, there are local attractions you can explore even if it does rain.
Where are you camping? / what do you like to do? - maybe I can help with some suggestions.
Our kids luckily enough like it when it rains as they get to play with Mum and Dad.
Have you thought about a Halogen oven - a roast dinner always cheers everyone up.

We are staying in Bracelands. We visited Forest and Wye Valley campsite in June and loved the area. Our friends wanted to come back with us this weekend so we decided to go for Bracelands as we thought Forest & Wye valley may be a little quiet for them (but it was perfect for us)!

There was lots that we didn't do when we last went so no shortage of day time activities and we're quite happy to put on the waterproofs and explore.

I was worried more in the evening when we all want to sit down and chill out?

I have looked at a Halogen Oven, however not sure the OH is so keen, he prefers the 'bare essentials' when camping!

Update: I have been looking at tarps and decided this could be the way forward.. we don't want to spend masses on an outwell extension.

I have looked at
Easy Camp 3 x 3
High Peak Tarp 2

Has anyone used either of these? no reviews on here yet..

Bracelands - My uncle used to be the Camp warden in the early 70's when it was run by the forestry commission (the two cottages are still there) as a small kid - this was my summer playground. My mothers family home (burnt down in the 80's) used to be opposite. I wonder why I got the camping bug.
Have also seen the Coleman event shelters used as a communal space.

thanks for your help guys, i have ordered the easy camp tarp to put up to cook/sit under in the evenings.

Oldwolf - oh wow, this is the first time we have been to bracelands but have visited the area previously. I think the first part of the site has now been developed in to the forest cabins.

the main reason we chose forest of dean was because OH wanted to explore all the bike trails with his friend (i can just about cope with the family trail ) but his friend broke his wrist last week so he's gutted!

I'll get some pics of our new set up and post when we're back

Tarps aren't great in heavy rain - it comes in the sides too :(

I like the Coleman 8 man octagonal tent as a shelter. May get one if they come down in price over the winter.
