Hello,

Has anybody used bicarbonate of soda or vinegar to remove stains from canvas? I have some minor mildew marks on the canvas of our trailer tent, but as it is creme coloured, I am worried about using commercial cleaners as they seem to be bleach based in a lot of cases. I'm seeing a lot of internet pages mentioning bicarbonate of soda in particular though, so would be interested to hear of any experience or advice anybody has.

I have tried with plain water, but no joy. I am yet to try a mild soap solution as I don't have any with me currently, but that will be next. Once home, I am planning to re waterproof the whole tent with Fabsil, so options that affect the waterproofness are not a big issue.

Many thanks
Craig

If you use vinegar it is acidic so is bicarb, your best bet it to steam clean it as the steam will kill the mould spores, then open it up in the sun.

If your TT is not letting water try to hold off reproofing as once you do you will have to keep reapplying it at regular intervals, also you will de value its resale

I wouldn't - buy a pot of IOSSO mold and mildew remover. It really does last for years as you only use a tiny amount. Made for the job, mind you I suppose it could be bicarb based for all I know. I would be really hesitant to try something that isn't tried and tested on my canvas - others use Milton in some dilution, never tried that either!

Edited to add that I have used IOSSO without having to reproof in the past.

Thanks for the info. Will try the suggestions first, although the IOSSO is expensive!

I also don't want to do something that isn't tried and tested, and that's what I'm really trying to determine. I've not done this before, so I'm relying on the experience of others!
