A great tip I found was to sew ribbons on the corners of duvets and duvet covers to tie them together and stop them moving about in the cover, more than one can be added at a time without the expense of the 2 in 1 duvets
That sounds like a good tip for just changing/normal duvet use! I hate it when the duvet slips and the struggle to change the covers too!

I shall see how I get on with my duvet, it is not feather and never will be as I am vegan but I am sure the duvet plus a blanket will be fine :)
None of ours are feather and we never have cold spots or draughts! I am allergic to feather x
We used out 4.5tog duvet on all trips during the summer, we get ours packed down into a packing cube bag (we already had one) rather than buy a vacuum bag - though I've heard good things. I also take a hot water bottle - great for having on the lap outside of an evening, and can help to take the immediate chill out of getting into bed.

2016: France (in plan)
Hmm... this is interesting. I'd been wondering recently about duvets.
We have rectangular down sleeping bags that zip together to form a double. They are ages old but we haven't been able to replace them with anything remotely similar. And we don't want something stuffed with a wodge of wadding.
Our duvets at home are down or feather and down, in different tog ratings.
Anyway, this summer in France we had the bags almost unzipped most nights but there were one or two nights when we were so much warmer with them zipped up.
Having looked online in 4 countries (isn't the internet wonderful!) for the bags we want, we're thinking now of getting 2 down duvets and a loong zip (plus some fabric for a shell) and making our own down sleeping bags. Just so we can snuggle in a zipped up bag when it's cold, unzip it when it's hot and zip one up as a single when there's just one of us.
Now I've read this thread I'm wondering if some of you would be happier in a double down bag too. (Not those who find bags constricting). The sleeping bags on sale are really not what we want (lying there separately in two nylon mummy bags, no thanks!)
