Well we went back to the garden/tent centre and looked again at the Montana 6, and the Vango Aspen 700 and then we saw the Sun Valley 8 and then thought we would go for that one and having chatted to the chappy who erects the tents there he told us it only takes about 30 mins to put up with no probs. It looks a lovely big tent and thought well it's s**t or bust and we parted with £349. I was quite glad we had finally decided as it was getting on my nerves keeping on going back and forth looking at them. Well it weighs 35kg and we had a job to get the box out of the car it seemed so heavy, so can't wait now to go and try it out, we will of course have a practice session but I bet it's going to be fun getting the bugger back in the bag
We are newbees so have to sort out some heat now any advice please would be appreciated and how about a healthy diet what do you guys and dolls cook surely not beans on toast all the time and bacon and eggs ~ any good cooks out there can give me a few ideas for something not too potchy but healthy too.
Would also like some feed back from any Sun Valley 8'ers out there on this particular tent.
i mentioned to someone on the site the other week if your struggling with a "heavier" tent get a second bag and seperate the tent into more manageable chunks i put all the poles etc in one bag and just the tent in another it stops you straining a strut lifting it out of the boot /trailer what have you( just remember to take the poles as well ...yes i have done that but i,m man enough to admit us fellas arent quite perfect!!)

What's this US, you speak for yourself as I know I'm perfect..........just need to find a way of convincing the wife that I am
As for poles in separate bag then yes good idea as I've always done the same, the new Outwell Monata actually comes like this in separate bags for tent and poles.
On my other tents I used to use a permanent marker pen and write on the poles bag in big letters POLES, doesn't stop you forgetting them but at least you know what they are when you find 'em

Never be afraid to try something new, remember.... Amateurs built the 'Ark'... but Professionals built the 'Titanic' !!!
hi we have the sunvalley 6. its the same tent but slightly smaller. we love it. used it twice now both times its stood up too bad weather, no leaks or probls so far. it goes up dead easy too. up in about 20 mins. tip: put each pole in the sleeves then start at the back by pegging the back down then move forward fixing each pole into a arch then put each arch into place and peg down it wont look right until you put the horizontal poles in place then hey presto its up (hope you get what i mean)
its a great tent, it looks nice, plenty space, is cosy at night but is very airy and light for those warm summer days
Have looked at the Sun Valley when visiting CCC and it looks fab! Splitting up a heavy tent into separate bags is a must for me cos I have a back problem...the last thing I want to do it to put me back out when I am supposed to be frolicking on a camp site!!
Re your question about healthy menus, on a two ring stove you can do lots of stuff with rice, pasta, noodles etc, and make good low fat stir fries with lots of veggies, and sauces for pasta. One excellent purchase I made last year was a cast iron griddle plus oil spray, so you cook with a minimum of oil when doing meat or fish on it. There has been a thread on here recently about recipes, so have a look at that too. Can't help you about heating - we use a big gas lantern which gives off some heat too so we don't need seperate.but I am sure someone else will be able to advise. I suppose it depends on whether you intend to have electric hook up.
we have a black cat heater. the first time we used it at easter we werent impressed but used it at southport last weekend and we were very glad we had it.
We used a halogen heater earlier this month when camping in the Lake District, you need a hook up but we were warm as toast sitting around it. Made the whole weekend more bearable as it was cold, never thought I'd see the day I erected a tent as snow fluttered down
Thanks everyone for your advice, we are looking forward to putting up the S Valley 8 as soon as the weather gets a bit drier ( lots of showers the last few days). I had a look at your piccies 'oois 25' and your tent looks great up doesn't it? I am glad you like it, it sounds just what we want, the chappy at the tent centre explained how easy it goes up and you explaining how you do it seems just the job.
As for the recipes I will have a look at those too, we only went for a Bank Holiday weekend last year and bought everything in a bit of a rush so didn't have it all and we ate out quite a lot but now having this tent we would obviously like to get a larger cooker etc and try again.
I had a look at those Black Cat heaters and don't know what to think of those but the halogen ones sounds quite good may look into that a bit more.
Anyway thanks for your help ~ you are a great lot and very helpfull.
Hi, we too are looking into buying a SV8. We have a VD600 at the moment but have fallen in love with the former. Heating wise, we have a fan heater which is great but have bought one of those halogen heaters and will prob take that this year. Of course you can cook healthily in your tent. We make stir frys, curries as well as the beans on toast norm etc. We have electric hookup so can also take our George Forman, so that's a bonus too for healthy grilled food but this year we have a griddle so whichever we decide to take, we won't have to fry everything.
Hi guys, sincerely wish you all the best with the tent, but please take time to erect it on a trial run before the day, and pay particular attention to the zips.
