Hey,
I posted a while back about my possibly leaky Gelert Saturn 8 tent. I was optimistic it may just be condensation so gave it another chance......as it turns out its last chance!
Last weekend we went camping in Whitby. The weather wasn't particularly good....we had plenty of rain! Once again the tent leaked like a sieve! The whole roof was covered on the inside with water droplets. By the end of day 1 the carpet was soaked and our pillows and bedding where soaked. The tent was well aired with both end windows open allowing good air flow!
Been damp and cold for 2 days gave me a stinking cold and I seriously considered giving up camping.
The tents back in its bag and will be flogged on ebay....seemed a shame to just dump it.
Now hopefully you guys will restore my faith in camping! Do all tents leak? What is a good reasonably priced 8 man tent? (450 is my budget. Not Higear as I hear there gelert)
I'm now very nervous about spending another few hundred quid on a tent which will leak again:(
So sorry to hear about the water in the tent. Wet bedding is no joke.
We had a Vango Tigris 800xl which was an 8 man tent. We sold it a couple of months ago as we do not need 2 big family tents (space in garage issue!)
It is a long tunnel tent but has lots more windows than some of its competiters. The bad news is they do not make them any more but they do come up for auction or sale (check out the 'free adverts' on this site) frequently.
They have a 4 man pod at one end and 2 lots of 2 man at the other end. Ours had a porch to go on the side which we cooked in and used for shoes and wet clothes.
Sorry to hear your trip was a soggy one. In answer to your question, no all tents do not leak. That said, little lasts forever so over time they can lose their resistance to the wet stuff. We have skipped two tents this year ourselves. They had served us well in the 10+ years we had them so, we are on with replacing them. We have decided to go for a complete change and have already bought and weathered our new weekender on the lawn. No leaks at all I am pleased to say. Our long stay tent will be significantly more money and we are waiting patiently for it to come on sale. There are loads of bargains to be had if you decide what you want and then shop around. Happy shopping Pauline
------------- I have NEVER been lost, though I do admit to spending several hours locationally challenged
More tentage = Campus Sherpa 4 - reproofed and still going strong
In Memorandum = Vango Quest, Khyam Chatsworth, and a frame tent OH wouldn'try!!!!
If the tent is in such a bad state that it's leaking like a sieve why are you putting it on Ebay? Or are you just going to sell it for poles, inners and spares? Synthetic tent flysheets don't last forever and once they delaminate there's no saving the fabric, it's only fit for the bin.
Hey,
Thanks for the replies. Tents only 3 years old and been out oits bag 4 times. It looks like its in good condition...just leaks a not. I'm not planning on misleading anyone but someone may decide they can do something with it! People are far to quick to just throw things away these days.....one mans junk is another mans treasure.....
Cheers,
Shaun.
