Hello, i have just began to really research into camping. I am a 27 y/o female, and wondered if it is safe? Im sure it is but a friend was sceptical.

I would be going places alone, for walking days and camping.

Id love some advice.

Many thanks, x

By 'safe', do you mean in terms of not getting lost or injured when out walking, or do you mean safe from other people who are up to no good?

In both scenarios it's probably not a fantastic idea to go wandering about away from the campsite or a village alone at night.

It terms of safety from up-to-no-gooders, camp sites are fairly friendly places, and as long as you don't go to really obscure ones you should be fine, although nobody can ever guarantee it! Start up conversations with your neighbours about the weather and you'll have camping buddies for your trip!

If I was camping or travelling alone, I'd absolutely carry an emergency whistle at all times, mostly for peace of mind. You can draw attention to people in the vicinity in all sorts of situations.

If walking alone in unfamiliar territory, then use common sense, and don't wander too far unless you're armed with a map/compass etc and you know how to use them. If you're on your own it's probably not a good idea to go wild swimming or climbing up anything slippy - if in doubt, avoid. Carry a basic medkit and an emergency blanket, and keep a phone on you just in case.

Thanks for great advice, i did mean people up to no good! But definitely seems to be common sense.

Exciting to get planning!

Yep like dtiapril says we are a friendly lot and good advice given, make friends with neighbours, they will notice anything strange if you are away from your tent.

most of all enjoy and we love pictures and stories

Have you read the reviews on that page, especially the last one?

I think you should be able to get something better (3000mm-plus hydrostatic head* for example) for not too much more. Although there is reference to a flysheet, suggesting there is a additional sleeping pod, it appears to me it may be a single-skin tent with just a fabric "wall" and doorway between sleeping and porch areas, which would be fine in fair summer weather.

*H/H is the height of a column of water which the fabric should be able to support before leaking.

You'll find lots of information on these and other pages of the Camping and Caravanning Club website, and here on UKCS of course!
