I use a camp bed from Argos and a Self Inflating Mat on top. It is very comfy and with space underneath to store stuff in. It is a narrow bed though. I also use an inflatable double airbed, which I insulate underneath and take extra blankets for on top of a sleeping bag.
I don't really have preference for one over the other. Neither are perfect really - I've come to realise that it's s compromise. I have a few different tents and for example the Bell Tent lends itself to the double airbed. A 'tall' tent like a tunnel tent lends itself to the camp bed as the walls are straighter to accommodate the taller bed.

We've just come back from 7 nights at Meadows Lakes. We slept on the Freedom Trail camp beds and 5cm sims from GO, was very very sceptical but had the best sleeps ever, will NEVER go back to air beds.

After being let down by our airbeds (no pun intended!) I bought a folding camp bed which is soooo comfortable.
After reading threads on here about the camp bed/SIM combo, I bought a 10cm SIM and would never camp without these together now!

I sleep on a 5mm roam roll mat most of the time (wild camper most of the time), but if you want comfort then a 10cm SIM is the way to go, no contest.
