I am camping in great yarmouth and being eaten alive by bed bugs. I havent found one yet but the bite patterns seem to be that of bedbugs. I dont know where i can buy spray. Wilkos and PetsAtHome all have flea and mosquito but not specifically for bedbugs. Do i need to call in an exterminator? I want to go home but dont want to take these bugs with me!
What a nasty experience. I have never heard of bedbugs in a tent before. I would have thought that outdoors the most likely culprits would be mozzies, gnats and possibly ticks if you are anywhere near long grass in an area shared with animals like deer.
Insecticide (i.e. flea spray) will work on any insects, (and fish as well).
If you are convinced its bed bugs, they are nocturnal and hide in the crevices and cracks of your bed frame and mattress during the day.
While you could treat the bed and bedding with insecticide I personally would not go anywhere near it as this stuff is basically a nerve agent geared for insects and it has a strong and unpleasant smell in any case.
Personally I would leave, and hot-wash and tumble dry absolutely all my clothing and spray my luggage the very moment I got home. The tumble drying will kill anything that survives the wash.
Could you have a an allergic reaction to something? Once came up with red marks on my legs, doc couldn't find the reason but did put me on strong antihistamine. Have also had allergic reaction to suncream came up with bumps everywhere took around 3 weeks to disappear, took me 2 weeks to figure out what it was, suspected everything.
That is the first time I have heard of anyone being eaten by bed bugs in a tent. I would go for mosquitoes/gnats in the open air prior to getting into your sleeping bed. The only other possibility is fleas. Do you have dogs or cats? You may even have brought them with you from home. If they have infested your bedding/sleeping bag at home you could be the first feast they have had.
Thank you for all your replies. I now believe it is hives. I've never had an allergic reaction to anything before and have camped many times. I always get bitten though, but it wasnt like mosquito bites so i just thought bed bugs as it happened whilst asleep and the marks seemed to follow a pattern. But in pretty sure now its not bugs. I did go home though as it is all over body and so so itchy and keeps flaring up.
