I know this has probably been done to death. Canvas tents like our Palamos 6 has never been proofed and as far as I can recall should never need proofing.
Am I wrong, I thought canvas tent if dryer and stored correctly never need proofing. I have just spoken to a bell tent maker and have been told the proofing only last about 3 years. Is that the same for all canvas bell tents.
Please any bell tent owners out there who have to keep proofing their tents
I own an old Sunncamp Villa 3, bought second hand 4 years ago. I've never proofed myself and I doubt the previous owners did either. Rain beads of the tent and "touch wood" doesn't leak. If aint broke don't fix it, no need for me to proof it. I have heard though that if you do proof it, you will need to re-proof it every other year, because the proofing agent breaks the natural bond in the canvas, or something like that!.

I agree. As long as the canvas is holding up in the rain and the water just beads up and runs off, then it does not need to be reproofed. I had an elderly Marechal frame tent and the canvas went kind of thinner especially on the roof. At that point the rain used to soak in rather than bead up, so I did treat it with Fabsil to restore the repellency.
