Hi all, 2 years later and we've finally purchased a tent! Very excited and looking forward to trying it out, any useful tips for us for our first trip?!

Put the tent up at home before you go.

For a first trip go for a couple of nights to a site within reasonable distance from hone. Make a packing list (list everythinbg, like tent poles), plan food but keep it simple. Don't expect perfection, make do or borrow if you are missing something. Have fun

Agree - practice pitch and weather in the tent before you go. At the very least watch a You Tube video for the pitching of you tent or one like it.

Try to pick a site that you'll like and treat your first outing as a learning exercise, you'll quickly work out what bits of kit you need. But most of all, keep your beer cold and wet and yourselves warm and dry.

Get decent beds and decent pegs, most (not all granted) pegs that come with the tent are not fit for purpose, invest in some rock pegs for starters, suitable for nearly all weather conditions when you are first starting out - 4 years later and I'm still happily using them.

Forgot to say make sure it's fine weather.......check!

Did you remember to put the tent in the car last so that it's first out when you arrive...although in good weather it's not imperative, just good practice.

Enjoy.

Apologies for not replying sooner. Just got back from our second weekend camping! Much quicker setting it up this time! We've stayed in 2 lovely campsites so far, costing around £20 per night (2 adults, 2 kids). Anyone have any recommendations of any local ish sites to Dorset?

We're going to give the Avon Tyrell activity centre a go (just outside ring wood) will be our second camping trip ever must admit we're cheating using their tent as we don't drive.. Just wondered does anyone use camping beds or am I wasting my time with them?
Thanks
