Maybe so... but I bet you weren't half as excited as us!

Definitely go for it. I love the encouraging remarks about your electric blanket. We went back to tenting in 2009 and after one very damp week-end started to use an electric blanket on the air bed. The amount of shock and horror posts I received back then about using an electric blanket in a damp tent!!!! 7 years on I'm still here to tell the tale!!!!!

More so than you Muckers I bet, absolutely enjoyed snow camping. Lovely to wake up to crisp virgin snow, hearing the crunching noise when walking. My dog was in his element and there is nothing better than sitting under a tarp, next to a roaring fire, with excellent company, total bliss.

Hello, sorry for not replying sooner - been camping!! The tip about the karabiners is great - we are going to do that as standard, will make fortifying for wind easier too.

I love the electric blanket - we even used it this weekend to take the chill/damp off before bed. So much better than the hot water bottles.

I can see we might struggle to dry the tent - we have a small house - so I might have to get creative!

Thanks for being so encouraging, and for not mocking my electric blanket use!!

Mucker - I have bought some karabiners but I think they are too big/heavy. What sort do you use? I don't want to get weak ones, that break, but don't think we would need climbing strength ones. Mine are really heavy!!!

This is a really interesting read....we're thinking about going to Scotland camping in October half term.....don't do EHU as we have a solar hubi.......but getting the tent aired in our house would be impossible. ..it's larger than our entire living/dining room space! Hmmmmmm. ...better give this more thought. ..

Sorry Purplenel, I missed your previous post...

Our current tent came with their guys already fitted with quality stainless steel carabiners.
However, before we got this tent, and thanks to quite a few on here recommending them, I went for the Stainless steel, 40mm carabiners from Handystraps.
Used them on tent and tarps etc.
Not exactly cheap, but certainly strong, durable and reliable! And good service from Handy straps too. They did make a simple mistake on one of my orders, (Sent 2 instead of 2 pairs) but after a Saturday AM 'phone call, they had put it right by the Monday, so all good.

Still use them on spare guys etc, (and also at home on our retractable washing line!) and after 2 years, camping "all year round", there's no sign of rust, no bending or "opening up", and not even any wear on the spring loaded "gates". They always spring shut, without fail.
I can't say the same for the first lot I got from Lidl/Aldi!

Quality-wise, I'd say there is no difference between those in the link and the one's that came supplied with my Karsten. Make your own conclusions from that!

Not particularly light, admittedly, but for "car camping" (as opposed to carrying everything on your back), I'm not sure they need to be.

Depends on your guy attachment points on the tent.
The Karsten ones that are supplied are 80mm, but the attachment size calls for that. Wouldn't get a 40mm on those, due to the wide (and rigid) pvc border around the eyelet...

But for my Kampa tents, and any of my tarps, the 40mm are more than ample.
Not familiar with your Robens, so can't advise.

As the others have already mentioned, with a bit of planning and preparation, and gear adjustment, one can enjoy camping in a tent throughout the year.

We are going to the Lakes at October half term, lots of soup, thermals and hats, possibly our wood burner but definitele our meths heater if not.

We nearly bought an EHU cable a couple of winters ago bit then bought a tent with wood burner instead.
