I bet I know how they did it. If the zip opening is at or near the bottom, they stick their pointy little noises into the join and wriggle them around until the zip moves enough to make a dog-sized gap.
All of my dogs have had this down to a fine art, and we have to be sure that any tent we buy has a two-way zip and that the zip pulls are always well out of dog-reach.
