Having been used to canvas tents, we were always aware that we should not touch the tent when it was raining or it would leak. Does this hold for the polyester tents? Our inner tent pushes against the fly when the campbeds are in.

Polyester should be fine. Sometimes you'll see some dampness wick into the inner but that's more than likely going to be condensation.

As above. Condensation can be quite bad sometimes and although you may not be able to see it, the inside of a polyester tent can get quite wet, so keep things from touching it if you can. If the outer and inner are hung tautly the inner shouldn't touch the outer unless you push a bed or something up against the walls.

Thanks Bob61. The beds pushing the inner against the fly are exactly our problem. Having bought Dreamboat SIMs for the top of the campbeds, we now find we are touching the sides however we place them. I think that we will be leaving the campbeds at home and just using the SIM - just hope I can get my aging bones up from the ground in the mornings!

If your inner tent pushes against the fly then yes, you'll get damp - if not wet - inners.

You need to leave that air gap in order to keep the inner doing it's job properly.

We left a chair leaning against the wall of a Cabanon and it wicked the rain through...Back in the day when tents weren't the quality of modern tents, if it leaked(when most did) you had to run a finger from the leak down to the bottom of the tent to divert the leak.

Great question, I was wondering the same! We have the same issue with the campbeds and SIMs but I think it's only the condensation that has come through so far.

I just need to point out that it isn't about the quality, it's about the material used. Canvas will wick water through if you touch it but A well looked after cabanon canvas will outperform and outlast virtually any mainstream family polyester tent and it won't boil you alive in the sun either.

The build quality of many old canvas frame tents surpasses most modern tents by miles! (I'm comparing my outwell, my obelink and and friends vangos to my Cabanon and Relum frame tents there).

Same principal applies to polyester tents peckedhen1,   Nothing should be pushed against the fly sheet, if it rains all the bedding will become wet.   Make sure nothing is against the fly sheet.

Given the number of people who use campbeds, the manufacturers should consider making the bedroom pods a bit longer to take into account the loss of length with the sloping back wall.
