I would definitely avoid a shed, garage or other outside storage area. Best place is somewhere indoors where the temp won't drop. A dry tent will still absorb moisture in a damp/cold environment.

Our tent used to live in the corner of the bedroom. Nowadays we keep most of the tents in the cupboard under the stairs (constantly hoping no damp gets in there - I think we've been OK so far but a couple of tents at the bottom haven't seen the light of day for a couple of years!).
We also split the poles out. it just makes things easier to handle (and we can shove the poles in the shed or the loft without too much hassle).
