We've recently upped to a powered camping fridge, as we have just been to to South of France with temps well in the 30's, but have to say, for both UK camping, and indeed previous September trips to Vendee and Dordogne, we were mightily impressed with the non-powered Coleman Xtreme cool box. As advised, we thoroughly pre-cooled (for 72 hours) before setting off, to the point there was an icy blast when it was opened ready to load up! Regular top ups (usually every other day) of ice, or better still, frozen water bottles (some sites have a freezer for this purpose) and it kept beers, butter, yogurts, milk etc more than cool enough, even with temps creeping into the high 20's.
Obviously, the down side (compared to a powered fridge) is that you need a freezer full of water bottles on the go for a few days before you set off, and have to either rely on site's having a freezer, or buying bags of ice from the supermarket.
Having said that, pre-cool it properly, and load a few frozen drinks etc in when you set off, and it will last ok for 4 days or so, outside of any heatwave!
Excellent bit of kit, to be fair.
