Hi All,
Not been here for a while, but dusting off the camping gear this summer and getting excited early!
We are taking a friend this time and we will be short of space in the car, so I'm looking at space saving.
We won't be taking a fridge and I'm trying to avoid the gas bottle as well.
I'm considering a multi purpose electric pan thing as we'll have a hook up.
What I'm looking for here is:
Suggestions for cooking methods, idea's for meals that can be done in one large pan, meals that can be pre-prepared and re-heated, idea's for keeping things cool.
Thanks loads for any suggestions.

choose a campsite near McDonalds ... breakfast lunch and dinner all taken care of and no washing up - hot food and cold drinks - some even open thru the night / drive thru and straight back to tent...

no cooker, gas, fridge or even food needed!

and what happens if the site has a problem with the ehu and it keeps tripping out? personally I would take a suitcase gas burner which will take up less space than your elec frying pan~!

for keeping milk and butter and beer cold, use a container full of water and keep in the shade, the rest of the food you can buy stuff daily as you need it, or you could just have your food delivered by the like of tescos etc, and careful planning of what your buying such as tinned and dried foods could keep you going for some time, for frozen stuff use a couple of soft cool bags inside each other and have everything pre frozen even bottles of milk will help for several days

I have to agree with this and normally that's what I do

However, if you get a mini hob (Russell Hobbs do a nice one here) and take a wok with you, you can cook all sorts of nice one pot things with rice or pasta, stir fry's etc.

When I do cook I would use minced meat and packs of ready cooked rice mix (peas and mushrooms etc.). Brown off the minced meat first then add the rice mix and any stir in sauces you may like...yummy!

To add to marg6's comment about keeping things in a bowl of water in the shade, drape a wet teatowel over it with the ends in the water. The soaking up of the water and resulting evaporation helps to cool things.
If you have room for a small cheap and cheerful toaster, that's very handy for crumpets, fruit bread etc as well as the obvious toast to have with beans, egg, bacon, marmalade etc for a quick easy meal.
I'm a fan of ready-cooked rice mixes; I like the Mexican one, done with some diced fried chicken, onion and mushrooms.

Hi Trenchn,
Also worth remembering ,more and more sites are now making fridge, freezers and microwaves available if you are prepared to trust your fellow campers.
Although not in a tent, we always take a meatloaf (the wife is American) for the first night, with a tin of peas and tin of potatoes makes a great meal.
Any leftovers can be fried the next morning.

I usually cook something like a chilli and freeze it. Keeps everything cool and makes a nice tea for the the first night.
