So its my first post on here (but it won't be my last)
This year sees our first year of camping both in the UK and Europe

However our first excursion is tomorrow to Sandy Balls which I know is a great site so Im not too worried about that

However what Im dreading is the fact its only March 23 and we'll be under canvas for just two nights granted but with a 5 & 7 yr old
We have a couple of heaters and they have ready beds with an extra sleeping bag to go on top, they'll have onesies as well so a good start

However I would love all you seasoned pros on here to give me all the tips and hints I need to have a successful couple of nights at the current low temperatures

Thanks guys and looking forward to many more posts on what has already been an extremely helpful website

Hot water bottles to warm up the beds before hand and put some foam mats under the ready beds. Yoga mats will do. You need insulation under the ready beds.

EDIT:
I note you say you have "a couple of heaters"... just be aware that campsite electric supply ("EHU" = Electric Hook Up) is usually low (most common being 6 or 10 amps, and occasionally 16 amps) and can apparently trip out easily (although I've only experienced that happening once, and that was a site-wide fault).
Heating elements (heaters/kettles/grills etc) can soon mount up and should be used sparingly at any given time.
There are experts on here who can advise further, if relevant.

ummmm - folks are camping up mount everest all year round and your only going to Sandy Balls ...

lots of moving around will get you all toasty warm - no sitting around on tablet, phones then complaining its cold!.

mucker has it down to a T...

and remember folks are camping All Year round in much colder places than Sandy Balls...

just as an aside - big tents are hard to heat - better with a smaller tent in colder comditions - easier for a small heater to keep cosy.

My kids are never cold. Never. Don't know how they do it really.

But they always take fluffy onesies for camping, and thick socks as well. They usually start out wearing these, in their sleeping bags - but at some point in the night they will end up naked and half out of the sleeping bags because they're too hot.

But I'd definitely go with onesies at least for late evening so that they start off warm in their beds. Oh, and hot chocolate for supper is essential!

Our first trip this year is for 3 nights on 7th April. Sprogs are 7&5 and like above, within a couple of hours of being in bed the covers are off and they are both like little radiators.

    We have an oil radiator which I might leave on overnight, depending on the temp forecast and a fan heater for the evenings but will play it by ear as to how much its used.

    The kids love Haven so we have booked Seaview at Weymouth. Plenty for them to be involved in during the day if the weather is pants.

Well done OP for trying your first camp in March. Most would wait till summer.Good on you!
As others have said its all about staying warm if sitting about at night and being warm in bed.. If it gets really cold ,leaving an electric heater on overnight can help.

Wearing layers of clothing is always best rather than one or two heavy items. If you get too warm its easy to remove a layer or add a layer if cold.
They even do that on Everest

Firstly thank you all for the tips and suggestions
And as mentioned neither of the midgets were cold at all and yes the eldest kicked her sleeping bag open in the middle of the night
Im lucky that both of mine are outdoor kids (maybe because their Daddy designs shoes for Merrell )
So after a day of Nerf War,craft,GeoCaching and football they were out like a light anyway

What a cracking weekend to start our camping adventure
Booked up for West Bay & Croyde in the next couple of months and then onto West France in August so you could say we've got the bug

Just got to work out now whether to get a bigger roof box or a trailer !!
