Everyone has their favourite sleep system but whatever it is, it should insulate you from the ground.
For a double, the best bet is a double self inflating mat (sim) either on the floor or on a raised bed. We use decathlon quechua air 70 bed bases linked with a 5 cm sim for insulation and then a double kampa bliss air mat for comfort. It is very comfy.
For backpacking we have a totally different system.

Vango Force 10 mk3
Vango F10 Helium 1
Coleman Cobra Pro 3
Coleman Cobra 2
Naturehike Star River 2
Eureka! Solitaire
Dutch army goretex bivvy bag
That would work. The rug and duvet would give a bit of insulation. As I said, everyone has their preferred system.

We use a fleece blanket on the floor then Thermarest Trail pros, sleeping bags & then more fleece blankets if needed (Usually not needed by me, sometimes needed by my OH who feels the cold more).
A lot depends on how worried you are about pack size and weight.

Camping beds with a sim on top be better ?
I'm basically after comfort and warmth

Camping beds plus sim is what we use, having previously had all sorts of air beds. Didn't seem to matter what we put under the air bed we would always feel the cold after a few days.
Never do now.
Another vote for camping beds and sim on top. A tip if you go down the camping bed route is to get some poly tubing to put on the edges of the camp beds.
------------- Don't follow where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
We are selling one of these http://outwell dreamboat
Which we have slept on for just 2 nights. It's on the selling page on here for £190 as we are now having to give up camping. If it's comfort you're after they are worth the investment as they're like memory fam mattresses ........ bliss
