Havent had holiday in a tent for 40 years lol. Looking at whats available , quite a minefield of tents out there. I fancy an air pump , but they are not cheap. Go Outdoors are selling an own brand cheap, Freedom Trail Sollia and i like the Hi Gear Aura Elite 3 tent. Want a 3/4 berth with headroom . Any advice or should i just keep looking lol.

http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-airgo-solus-horizon-4-tent-p360420 should meet your requirements although if you can wait you might get it cheaper - they were £249 during the last school half term.

Where do you want to go? And when? And for how long? Is it just you going? All these things and more will affect what's a good tent for you.
FWIW I'd say don't spend a fortune until you're sure it's for you. Do you know anyone that you could borrow some/all of the kit from to start with? A bit of camping soon gives you a better idea of what you need/can't see the point of.

Our friends bought a 6 man vango air tent package last year they are aged 52.
They had a great year loved it, got them back into camping, the tent took some awful weather high winds and rain... they however have decided to go onto a trailer tent ..
Sold it on with a slight loss, they had a years hols and it owed them nothing and have been away already this year in there new set up ... good luck :)
