Good evening I have just bought a vango Keswick 600 dlx air the length is 7m. I was wondering if I can camp at any camp site with this tent or are they strict with the tent sizes and pitch sizes. We are new to camping and went for this tent for the easy erecting of it and the spacious living area. Any help would be great
What you will find is that each site has it's own restrictions. With a tent that size I would advise always contacting the site first and asking them if they can take the tent size. Give the full floorplan measurements. Just remember that your pitch is inclusive of all you take including the car.
Some are accommodating with fitting things in others are strict on your pitch.
I always give dimensions of the tent when contacting a site just so that no misunderstandings take place on arrival. After all it's your holiday that could be inconvenienced.
I can't see how anyone can guess the size including guys. It depends how far from the tent you decide to peg the guys and that can change depending on the slope of the pitch or any obstructions such as hedging.
Many campsites will charge according to the 'man' size of the tent. Some sites will charge a certain price up to 4 man and then a slightly higher price for 5 man and above. If it is a very big tent they may want to charge you for two pitches. I have a 5 man tent but it has quite a small footprint so I make sure campsites realise that when booking if there are any restrictions on size.
When a campsite asks for the size of the tent they usually just mean the footprint and any sensible campsite owner knows the guys stick out further. They also know you may have a car to park on the pitch. If the pitches are so small you will struggle to accommodate tent, car, and be able to sit on your pitch outside with a table and chairs I think I would choose another site!
Welcome to UKCS
We have camped with similar sized tents, just tell them when you book its a bit of a beast, we have never been charged yet for a larger tent and been amazed that the tent and car usually fit ok on the pitches we have had.
Thank you to all of you I've messaged a campsite we would like to go to 1st just a local one to get use to puting the tent up. In most of the sites I've seen they have pitches that are 38ft it looks like it's just the odd few

It is the odd few sites that stipulate size. That might be because they have marked pitches of a certain size, especially if using electric hook up. Other campsites will grab any excuse to make a bit of extra cash. The size of the tent shouldn't make that much difference...it's the number of people using the facilities that increases the overheads.
I camp solo but use a 5 or sometimes a 6 man tent. Most campsites I have been on will give me a solo concession regardless of the size of my tent and I will then of course happily return to those sites and recommend them.
Quite recently I wanted to book a pitch at a site which was charging £18 per pitch for two people. £18 a night just for me is a lot of money so I asked if they would do a solo concession. The answer was no, because my tent took up just as much room as anyone else's
I didn't argue the fact that I only used half the amount of water, hand soap and toilet paper and just found another more accommodating campsite.
A good idea to read the campsite reviews and then add those to your personal experiences and you will soon work out the best sites to go to which cater for your personal requirements.
