We have gone all electric and I would like to know if the Camping & Caravan Club sites have EHU at 10amps on there tent pitches, if they do is it worth joining and do save money on your pitch fees
A few points to consider - the non-member pitch fee and EHU charge are both additional to the basic (variable!) nightly price for the pitch.
If you intend using Club sites for about a week or more your non-member fees would amount to more than your annual subscription, so in that case it would pay you to join (it's possible to sign up on arrival).
As far as I know Club Site EHUs are 16amp, but those at Certificated Sites and Temporary Holiday Sites (both "members only" and both likely to be less expensive than Club Sites) may be less than 10amps if they are available at all (check with individual sites).
There are not very many campsites left now that only provide 5 or 6 amps except quite remote ones. The majority in my experience now provide at least 10 amps and many are now providing 16 amps. The only problem is that most EHU units are only 10 amps.
It was a couple of years ago now when I was last a member of the C&CC but the sites I went to provided at least 10 amps.
Now...don't get me started on value for money by joining clubs
You will need to take into consideration the annual membership fee (£39 when I joined, may be more now) and the tariff you will pay as a member every time you use a club site, and compare that with how much it would cost if you went to non-club sites where there is no 'membership fee'.
I once worked it out that compared to the non-club sites I normally frequented, I would have to use a club site on at least 14 nights a year to draw even. That would be almost impossible because not every place I wanted to visit had a club site nearby and I was paying non-club site fees as well.
Add to that the fact you have to book club sites well in advance because they all get booked up quickly and you have to pay a deposit in advance which, if you can't go because the weather turns bad at the last minute you will lose, joining a club is a very, very expensive way to go camping...it was for me anyway.
Whilst joining the C&CC will get you discount off their prices, you will still be paying as much or even more than you would pay on many private sites.
If you intend to join, check that they have EHU for tents on the site you intend using. On some of their sites such as Keswick most of the pitches with EHU are now reserved for caravans and motorhomes.
