Hi,
My Sister-in-law and I are 'old' campers but for the first time, we're taking her 4 year old. Looking for suggestions for sleeping bags/beds/airbeds to keep her cozy and contained!
We're only planning 1 night for our first trip so don't really want to spend too much if its not necessary.

Hi Debby I'm really new to camping myself but we've recently enjoyed a few family camping breaks. Unsure on whether we would take to it we initially purchased the single sleeping bags and flocked air beds that are on sale in Tesco. I must say that for the price we paid for them they were absolutely great. Our young kids loved them

Hi. We took our daughter for the first time when she was three. We got a 3cm sim from home bargains for a tenner and took her regular bedding. We put a blanket on the floor as we knew she'd roll off. Each morning we found her on the floor, off the blanket, half covered in a duvet and toasty warm. The only time she was cold was one night in April when it was frosty every night and she'd done the same thing.
I hope your niece loves it.

My children wear their winter PJ's for summer camping. That is long sleaved top and long legged trousers.

They use onesies to wear between dinner & bed - to wind down (or should that be run around while we do the washing up and remind ourselves that we are all on holiday!)

Forgot to say my 3 all sleep on roll mats (the foam roll up things) which are about £5 from Halfords or supermarkets. Then they have their sleeping bag.

They usually sleep hanging out of their bag and all 3 in a tangle. I try and return the correct child to their sleeping bag when I go to bed as it is cold (for me) and think that they may get cold.

My boys will not sleep in a sleeping bag abroad but in the UK they use a very light summer sleeping bag. I would be tempted to buy her a ready bed x

I've been camping with my daughter since she was five. Any old sleeping bag on any old roll mat / SIM seems to work fine. She runs hot and wriggles incessantly. If we're pitched on even the slightest slope she will find her way to the lowest point through a combination of Brownian motion and gravity, sometimes kicking her parents' faces in the process.

If it's very cold she sometimes asks for a hot water bottle.

My 4 year old has trouble staying in a sleeping bag and would wake up freezing in the middle of the night. Now he sleeps on a childs airbed. Fleece blanket under him and a cheap duvet over him and he stays lovely and warm

I took my kids away from when my daughter was about 2 and my son 3.

Just used to take standard airbeds (old fashioned rubber ones in those days!) and standard sleeping bags. All worked fine. Didnt really see much in the way of SIMs etc back then but never needed them.

However if you dont want to take a sleeping bag then a cheap SIM such as Aldi are doing at the moment would do the job and more than big enough for kids

my 6 year old has a camp bed, a cheap fleece under a thin mattress protector, then he's in a Vango kids mummy bag and i got a thermosoft blanket on top. He was roasting.
