So. Chilling out in the tent and the site owner comes to the door to ask how big my Alaska is....with guylines.
Now. It is a bank holiday in Ireland and said owner lost the booking I made a month ago. He had tents cheek to jowl...crammed in and a load of croydes and outwells etc that are way bigger than my tent. We have kept quiet and haven't been there during the day.
They tried to fit me in next to the septic but I asked if I could pitch a bit away and that was confirmed. A group turned up moaning I was on their field but nothing was said to me. The owner has chatted to us over the years and has complimented us over the Alaska but this time he made out he didn't know us.
Bad luck for him as we spend a lot of money when we visit twice to three times a year. We also spend in the on site restaurant. I will be letting my views known when we leave tomorrow and won't be back.

Also.I forgot to mention...the bit we ended up in was a pitch away from the septic, right next to the evening lounge area full of p**sed up motorhomers rally members and a pitch away from the kids play area. We booked over a month ago and this is what we ended up with and the same guy who took my booking and f#### it up gives me hassle.......
We have been coming here for years. Never
disturbed anyone, obeyed the rules etc. They have lost my custom.

I am really annoyed with a rude site owner. This is a site we have been coming to for years and have recommended to friends.
Booking was lost so ended up on a bad pitch.
Compounded by the owner trying to imply our Alaska and tarp took up too much room. He had tents pitched so close together they couldn't guy out.
Totally ruined the atmosphere of our last evening here.
If he had a problem, why didn't he tell us on Friday? If he had booked us in properly....
We won't be back and a new review will be posted regarding cramming tents in and noise.

It sounds utterly grim.

Shame on him.

I bet he was anticipating your complaint and getting ready to say 'you didn't fit because your tent and tarp measure xyz' rather than 'because I failed to book you a pitch''

The tent and tarp is under the 8 metres he gives on his website. Going to pack up, make my feelings known and leave.

I don't think the C&CC take guy lines into account for tent measurements.
A site that lets tents pitch that close and has a lounge attracting drunken behaviour sounds like a site your better off without!

This is our first time here at the August bank holiday. At other bank holidays the atmosphere has been totally different. They did have a motorhomers rally here this time so a large group all together and they seem to be cramming people in with no regard to fire precautions or privacy.
None of the pitches are marked out so he can get away with it. There are other sites in the area. We will be doing to them instead. Pity as it used to be our favourite site and we would come a few times a year. He will miss our custom at the beginning of the season when the place is nearly empty.
It all just came out of the blue....

I didn't see him talking to people in larger tents...
He was probably anticipating a complaint about the booking so got a bit petty. That was silly as we had put it down to bad luck and if he hadn't started on us then all would have been OK.

It comes down to what I always told my kids growing up: anyone can make a mistake. It is what you do next that counts. Put thought into 'How do I best put this right'.

He hasn't quite got the hang of it, has he?

If you really like the site, re-consider for an empty-season slot if you want to. I once had a site owner cause the most awful situation, and then be rude. But years later we are back because we like their style of site, and they have put in a more professional system (bypassing the alcoholic Dad.....)

Real shame, if you really do like the site at most times of year.

Maybe a carefully worded email in a few days time explaining how often you come and how disappointed you were this time with the pitching and their manner with you might clear the air if they apologise.

Maybe the site owner was stressed with the event and this led him to act out of character. Could you overlook him being a wally on this occasion in time, to allow you to continue to enjoy the site.

The owner came when we were packing up and apologised with no prompting on our part. We had a chat and it seems sorted.

It is hot and sunny now. Yesterday was torrential rain. We had a sunny wake up and then it poured down. The tent will go in the garage to dry and the tarp in the garden.
