heath63, do I see a Coleman Caucasus 3 that's not on your 'Outfit' list?

I saw one at a Camping Exhibition a few months ago, and was tempted to buy one, but my wife was not keen as she couldn't stand up in it.
I had to bite my tongue to refrain from telling her it was for SOLO camping

Regards James

Snow on a tent makes brilliant insulation. Just a bit of a shock waking up to it (at Moffat).

James. That is a pic of my Caucasus which I have replaced with a cobra.
Excellent tent and very roomy but too heavy for backpacking.

Thanks Ewan C, sorry for my error.

I had a look at the "Cobra Pro" spec'.

For me, I'd use it as a solo lightweight tent.

The 5000HH of the groundsheet helps it to keep the weight down, but suggests either a footprint is needed, or clean grassy pitch to avoid damage.

Kind regards
James

I use it for backpacking with OH. It isn't ultralight but it isn't like our F10.
We bought it as it has twin side entrances. It will be put to the test next year on our 2 week walk in Normandy. No wild camping involved.

Happen to say to wife other day we can start using the tent again now things are better, half hour later 3 nights booked at a site we've used before an hour away from home and can't bloody wait for it.

I couldn't get away when I wanted to a couple of weeks ago because we had those high winds and rain but if the weather holds I am certainly hoping to get away to Dorset early next week. The long distance forecast is looking good. I will certainly have EHU though!

Do it, I've been climbing Snowden in just shorts before and getting sunburnt in mid Oct.

Keeping an eye on sunspots will become more of a feature as we go into a solar minimum in a few years time if scientists are right, but the TLDR is no sunspots = whacky weather, ie too hot, too cold, too windy, too wet.

Last time we had a solar minimum was 500 years ago so no met office data to go off, just contemporary data which a Prof Brian Fagan has amassed and written about in a few books if interested in what to expect. Volcanoes are mankinds biggest risk, largest explosion in last few hundred years is ten times greater than the combined power of all the nuke weapons on this planet and a massive volcanic explosion spewing lots of ash into atmosphere can reduce global temps by an average of 10 C in as many days threatening global food supplies which is a risk as this country imports 55% of its food and the UK supply chain only has upto 5 days food if the country was cut off.

Just to put some of the recent Trump/NK news in perspective.

When you think about it, we are all walking around on the rather thin dried and cooled crust of a massive fire ball. One day there is going to be a heck of a bang when the bubble bursts!

And yet, globally, the planet, as of now, is producing enough food to feed everyone on it's overpopulated surface..............

Distribution and infrastructure is one problem amongst many which causes famines & food banks but theres nothing like Nature to introduce a spanner into the works, and volcanoes are probably the biggest spanner we currently face on this planet for a major cataclysmic event and another Carrington event all driven by the sun.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_storm_of_1859

500 years ago when the solar minimums happened, its thought (because not much record taking took place), nearly 25% of the global population died due to famine and cold because a series of event all came together much like the Plagues of Egypt.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagues_of_Egypt

I dont mind continuing this in off topic if interested.

..which brings me to camping in Oct.???.....yes, very comfortable night last night; the lavvu was too comfortable for a passing hedgehog who stuck his nose under the eaves, and then meandered on.......
